Where should I begin?
Speaking to a chap at my gym in the early hours this morning (I do not live in the UK, nor does he, obviously) with whom I am quite friendly with over the past two years.
He happens to work for GE, developing countries logistics, and we happen to be speaking about the roll out of massive data centres for AI, specifically in the US where GE have been task to build 2-6 of these things, just to collect data. He is of the same opinion as I, AI merely collates data and regurgitates it, provides no useful info that we as human cannot do.
Anyway, then I mentioned the power required to start and operate these things, and mentioned that the UK have also expressed an interest in data centres. I said you would need SMR's, to which he replied:
"Oh yes, we (GE) have already signed a contract to supply and build three for the UK government, it's been 'inked'"!!!
Also another three for the Canadian government.
Well, isn't that nice! We are all looking at Westinghouse, RR, meanwhile the government already did a deal.
Now, I did not want to push him on which UK government, this one or the previous as that may leave him exposed.
I always knew the UK government would screw it's own over for a foreign power, but this really takes the biscuit.
One could argue that the UK should only use RR as a matter of 'national security', the same way the US does, all the time.
