Neil_, speaking generally and not giving financial advice but, I think if you are young enough I would start with a growth fund with high dividend, a fund does go up and down, but not with the same volatility as equities.

Also do a bond with high as possible return in the form of coupons, for as long as you can, if you manage to build on that bond and can add to it, you may be able to supplement your old age with the coupons alone. You would need to seek better advice than I could offer.

Gilts, poor return and the way governments are going, who knows how secure they are, remember when LBC under BoJo lost £50b when the 2008 crash happened? I do.

Can I ask where you got this '20%' per annual figure from? Not sure any fund would deliver that and if one is offering that, really do an investigation.

I have funds, but they have been going up and down this last 18 months to a point where it seems they have stood still.

Funds are not like bonds, even bonds don't guarantee 100% of your money back.

Just be careful and expect @5-7% growth, that would be reasonable.

i will preface this by saying, i was a us citizen from 1982-2010, then renounced.

not a single day in that time since have i thought, “i wish i was still a us citizen”, not one!

now, as someone that was and lived in the us for 12 years i know a fair bit about the us culture and the politics.

the us is a ‘pay to play’ existence, nothing is free. unless you are registered, you cannot access country or state schools. illegals don’t register, i wonder why?

they get nothing for free. even us citizens can barely get anything free.

no free health care, no free education, at any level.

i have worked with illegal immigrants whilst in the us, never had a problem with them, always on time, always worked hard and never complained. the ‘rednecks’ that also worked for me, were late, knocked off early, disappear only to reappear several hours later, drunk or cracked out. the police, never had an issue with illegals, ice did.

the ‘illegals’ in the us cannot access any thing free, just does not happen, they pay for everything and would never seek legal help, as that may alert the ins to them, so they stayed under the radar, avoiding law enforcement at all costs and basically moved without sound.

these people are not a burden on the us system. the very same applies in the uk and most any country in europe.

the government and the super rich are the burden. if trump or any other zealot wanted to benefit the citizens of his country, they would give health care and education free!!

but they won’t, ‘cos they could care less.

also, any country or leader that pronounces them or their country to be: ‘the greatest country on earth’, are delusional, cannot state that as fact as the clock has not run down yet and it is not over, but also by default saying that every other country with 1000’s of years of history are ****.

I cannot speak to that regarding the UK, but in my personal experience, it was just an assumption that you sold enough to cover the taxes, the remainder became yours, taxes paid and when you sold them at a later stage, no tax was liable. From my side we were given the option to self fund the tax burden or sell shares. This made more sense to me as it was a non UK company and are also not in the UK. Too much forex involved.

So I just looked at the RNS and 27k shares were vested under Turfan's name, that means that share he was awarded are now his, once they become 'his shares' he has to pay tax on those shares, he could either keep all the shares and pay the tax liability on those 27k or sell what he needed to cover the tax, which he did and now the remainder are his, tax paid.

I suspect this was all done automatically by the in-house broker, he did very little other than say yes.

Nothing to worry about.

As for the 'closed period', not 100% on this, but I think there is a 'cut off' time before EOY results, this is to prevent from any insider dealing that one may benefit from, given the information that may come out.

When stocks that are awarded as part of a pay deal or salary bonus, they vest within 2-3 years or at least 33% of those become vested. They have no choice but to do something with those shares, time of year, not when you feel like it, also probably UK tax EOY, these must be dealt with and tax paid down.

This has nothing to do with the sp.

It's all to do with a tax bill that must be paid and the company has deadlines to file those. Simple.

The US markets always seems to rebound quite robustly within the next trading session, the UK, not so much and by the time the UK markets start to climb again the US is once more on a downward cycle, which of course brings us down. It's like a down and out ex boxer trying one last fling in the ring , out of breath and gasping for oxygen from too many years smoking 20 per day. The most he can hope for is a standing 8 count... just saying.

When shares vest (as part of a pay package), they basically become 'your's;, so they are then taxed and thus the tax must be paid in order for you to have them, once paid (taxes) you can either leave them in the vested account where you could enjoy the further growth of the sp or take them by selling and taking the cash.

While this government are borderline useless, so were the last lot, probably more so, as they had 15 years to do something, but only squandered tax payers money.

Let's not call them 'Labour or Conservatives', they are both equally bad as each other. Not 'better', as that would indicate an improvement to some degree.

But, let's wait and see how much this gov f.u.c.ks up the UK before we judge.
