EC, $90 is not what I would consider high. It was a lot higher in 2014 then went down and obviously in 2020 sunk into the abyss.
But at $90 +/- oil companies generate decent income, this then helps keep up the indices but without doing too much damage to oil using companies. The price at the pump is not reflective of oil price, it is simply gouging.
There must be a balance and of course this is just my take.
Even if oil dropped to sub $90, airlines would not suddenly have a rise in sp.
