I think that any stock which trades materially below its IPO price some 14 years ago could comfortably be described as disappointing, if not in fact "dire".

Glenda isn't alone in this regard, but the share price to underlying commodity prices disconnect is stark. Although, I suspect the dismantling from 450p to 350p was "managed" behind the scenes, allowing some to accumulate, in anticipation of those Rio talks materialising into a merger.

It's hardly a rigid belief, it's grounded in reality because $120ish has historically been a cap, both in the 2010s and then again in 2022.

We've been here many, many times before remember - oil mounts a mini comeback (we're still only at $81 after all) and then everyone starts talking about $200 a barrel again...All driven by emotion. The same outlandish claims were made only a few years ago, it pays to stay grounded.

I'd wager she/he did a few years in the City then got canned, hence the clear resentment towards the UK and Brits. She/he has a superficial level of capital markets knowledge, obviously garnered from a junior role. Labour and Tories are equally culpable for the decline of the UK over the last few decades. But it is amusing to see the Tory faithful frothing at the mouth over Labour, as if the UK was booming for the last 14 years but then suddenly collapsed after the last election. The writing was on the wall a long time ago.

It's more to do with letting people back in who didn't want to hold for the production report. Ditto the stop hunting attacks from 120p to mid-90s on three occasions, these people want to have their cake and eat it...

When you buy stocks in this era, you're not actually investing in the fundamentals of the business...You are simply taking a bet on the collective behaviour of other investors/traders/gamblers.

If stock price movements were rational and derived from fundamentals, then most retail investors wouldn't lose money.
