RE: Good to see.7 Nov 2021 16:59
"Now fleccy I totally disagree with your Brexit comments. Firstly as of now name one benefit that has resulted. The vote centred around keeping Eastern Europeans out and therefore not taking the jobs the Brits don’t want to do. Now forget engineering jobs returning to the UK."
As part of the EU, the UK has allowed businesses to import skilled labour, while exporting manufacturing, and everyone can see it. As far as manufacturing's concerned, Robots are taking up many of the roles once performed by Humans, and since manhours is the most expensive part of the manufacturing process, it makes sense to build locally as automation becomes more commonplace; You'll still need people to manage the automated production lines, but at least companies will be forced to train local Labour rather than importing cheap labour from Poland and Romania.
By leaving the EU, the economy will be forced to rebalance to more localised production, so better jobs and more future opportunities for the current school age children, which will be one advantage.
If you look at the way the EU has evolved, virtually all the best jobs are going to Germany; Just look at the companies carrying the German badge, Siemens, BMW, Volkswagen, Daimler, BASF, Thyssenkrupp, Bayer, even on the Supply & delivery they are dominating with companies like Deutsche Post. The way things are going, Germany will just own everything, and the rest of the EU will get the leftovers.
Under EU law, the UK has to follow EU competition law, so all work is tendered EU wide, that will change now we're out, so I expect to see more UK work tendered to UK companies, there's another advantage.
You can see companies appearing, like British electric vehicle manufacturer Arrival, and Battery manufacturers like AMTE Power and UK startup Britishvolt raising investment to build a Gigafactory in the UK.
As I said previously, sometimes you have to break something to fix it, and although Brexit might be difficult at the moment, things will get better. I dismiss articles from media outlets like the Guardian and Independent, since they're as biased as the Express, just on the opposite side of the coin.
Brexit was the right thing to do, in my opinion, since I hated the direction the country was heading, and I would vote the same way again even if the Economy nosedived.
The articles suggesting Brexit is some sort of nostalgia for days of Empire, or Rule Britannia reincarnated, are so far off base it's embarrassing for them imo. The vote to leave was entirely based on the countries direction within the EU, people voted for change. Just to finish, an argument for staying in the EU is that the UK Government could have built up British Industry as a member of the EU, and that may or may not be true, but personally I doubt it would happen as a member.
