The three Southeast Asian states dispatching their top diplomats this week have a range of motivations.

The three day visit to China is very interesting coming just before the Australian height level meeting. Greater Sunrise will surely factor highly in both.

Dili, 2 April 2024 - Following the first preparatory meeting for the Senior Official Meeting (SOM) between Timor-Leste and Australia by the end of this month, the Director General of Bilateral Affairs for Asia and Oceania, Mr. Marcos da Costa, hosted his counterparts and representatives from the line ministries for the second preparatory meeting for the said SOM, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

This second preparatory meeting discussed about the specific areas of cooperation between Australia and line ministries as well as about the draft agenda for the upcoming SOM, which was provided by Australian Embassy in Dili today.

Taking into consideration the amount of technical and substantial arrangements for the SOM, the meeting had agreed to reconvene on the 11th April 2024, for the third preparatory meeting, at the same venue.

This has to be the first time a TL media outlet has mentioned Sundagas in the same breath as Greater Sunrise. Things are looking up. (right at the end of the video)

April 1st, 2024 (TATOLI) - Timor-Leste Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEK), Bendito Freitas, met with President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, to discuss the agenda for a work visit to China on April 4th, 2024. "I met the President of the Republic to discuss the agenda for a work visit to China. I received an invitation from Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu), Wang Yi, to visit the People's Republic of China on April 4th," said MNEK Minister, Bendito Freitas to journalists after meeting with the President of the Republic at the Presidential Palace in Dili, on Monday. During the meeting, Minister Bendito also asked for advice from the Head of State on important matters to be discussed in the meeting with Chinese Menlu regarding the bilateral relationship between the two countries. "I also asked the President of the Republic for advice on important matters to be discussed regarding the bilateral relationship between Timor-Leste and China," he said.

Indonesian President-elect Prabowo to visit China in first official post-polls foreign trip

Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto will visit China next week at the invitation of President Xi Jinping for what will be his first official overseas visit since his election last month, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Friday. Secretary-General of ASEAN to conduct an official visit to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste

At the invitation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor Leste Bendito dos Santos Freitas, the Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr Kao Kim Hourn will conduct an Official Visit to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, on 1-4 April 2024.

In preparations for Timor-Leste’s journey towards full membership of ASEAN, Dr Kao will lead the ASEAN Secretariat team consisting of the three pillars of the ASEAN Community as well as the ASEAN Connectivity to hold bilateral meetings with President José Ramos-Horta, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, President of the National Parliament and Head of the Parliamentary Benches Maria Fernanda Lay and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Bendito dos Santos Freitas, among others. SG Dr Kao will also be meeting with the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and prominent private sectors representatives. During the visit, the SG Dr Kao will also engage with the young future leaders and Resident Ambassadors of ASEAN Member States to Timor-Leste.

I think that’s a real possibility. Nothing concrete to back it up though. Unfortunately TL officials never ever mention Chuditch in their press releases or community meetings. Waiting for firm drilling date to us to take centre stage.

Now there are plans for it to play a critical decarbonisation role by transitioning into a carbon capture and storage site - creating a potential new industry with ongoing employment opportunities.

As part of the preparatory meeting for the upcoming Senior Official Meeting (SOM) between Timor-Leste and Australia, the Directorate General of Bilateral Affairs for Asia and Oceania holds the first meeting at Director General level intra-Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, to discuss about aspects of cooperation at bilateral, regional and global between the two countries.

The meeting was chaired by Marcos da Costa, Director General for Bilateral Affairs for Asia and Oceania and participated by Director General for ASEAN Affairs, Director General for Protocol and Consular Affairs, National Director for Western Asia and Oceania, National Director United Nations, National Director for Privilege and Immunity, Acting Executive Director for Timor-Leste’s Agency for Cooperation and staff.
