For more than twenty years I have watched the quest by Xanana Gusmao and his colleagues to commercialise his country's largest resource asset, and the barriers that have been placed in front of him.

I was directly involved with the formulation of this plan to develop Greater Sunrise in a holistic manner, to benefit the people of Timor-Leste. Thus I support the incredible effort, not only by my friend Xanana Gusmao, but by President Jose Ramos Horta, former Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri, Ministers Agio Pereira, Alfredo Pires and Francisco Monteiro - who have all been devoted to developing Greater Sunrise for the benefit of Timor-Leste. This project is much more important to Timor-Leste than just dollars and cents, it is about capacity building and developing sustainable skills.

As per the last report of 29 February 2024, the petroleum fund's value is 18.2 billion. If the package fiscal comes out in April to finance the OJE, it means the Petroleum Fund will have a balance of 16.3 billion for the next five years. Any mining projects that start now will take time, and it will take at least seven years to explore and another two to three years to develop a new field. Timor Resources' exploration in Suai and Manufahi is already advanced, and we hope that the field in Suai can be developed soon. But as experts have said, it is challenging to discover a big oil field like an "elephant" in a dry country like Timor-Leste, but we are still hopeful. We are also waiting for the Chuditch gas exploration in the sea, which will start soon. We hope it can provide revenue for Timor-Leste. That article was written by long time Timor campaigner and ex Senator for Western Australia , Rex Patrick. Australia and Woodside’s behaviour disgraceful in the past. These latest allegations are over TL media. Might prompt a response from the TL government. Trust is everything.

Very interesting article. Woodside and Australia appear to be untrustworthy and duplicitous partners. Maybe TL should just move on as best they can. Then again. We haven’t heard officially anything.

I was aware of the presidential visit. Clearly China will assist in the petrochemical infrastructure plus many other civil projects. Building closer ties with TL which USA and Australia won’t like. Horta putting his people first. Inpex want a slice of the South Coast development too. Great news for future gas projects like Chuditch. Just need that deal signed and its lift off. Sundagas are in a beautiful position to benefit from this incoming transformation of the TL economy.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, accompanied by Timor-Leste's ambassador to China, Loro Horta, met with the Governor of Guangxi Province, People's Republic of China, Liang Tanlin and his team to discuss future cooperation between Guangxi and Timor-Leste. The meeting was part of the first official visit after being appointed as Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister in Timor-Leste's IX Constitutional Government, to the People's Republic of China following an official invitation from his counterpart, China's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi. Minister Bendito highlighted the strategic location of Guangxi and its potential for Timor-Leste, especially after becoming a member of ASEAN.

I would be getting very excited about INPEX clearly about to increase their presence in TL oil and gas. Sending a high level delegation to the country (again) with plans to open a permanent office.

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Timor-Leste’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Bendito dos Santos Freitas in #China’s #Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Bendito dos Santos Freitas’s visit was at the invitation of Wang Yi. Previously, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said China hopes the visit will help the bilateral relations achieve more pragmatic progress.

During the meeting, Mrs. Langridge updated and provided further elaboration to DG Da Costa and the team, on the proposed agenda for the 3rd Senior Officials Meeting by Australia.

On April 4, 2024, joyfully and unexpectedly met again with Mr. Hitoshi Okawa, Director, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Senior Vice President, General Administration, Senior Vice President, Oceania Projects, Mr. Sugawara Takuya, Vice President - President Director’s Office, Mr. Yosuke Ueda, Vice President Oceania Projects Division from INPEX CORPORATION Japan who shared thoughts and experiences and exceeded expectations in their meeting in Timor-Leste. Also introduced was Mr. Hitoshi Okawa who will come to Timor-Leste in order to establish a building and branch of INPEX CORPORATION in Timor-Leste in the near future.
