How many ways can we be cheated 18 Jun 2014 15:38
Thanks Jackd, hope you are doing well. Certainly agree with your post, but it means regulators have their fear and apply the rules like n any ther issue. I can't see why it shouldn't happen along with their disqualification from the market when let out. LSEx rules are England & Wales law., (refer LSEx Rules on shorting). At today's price I reckon we are at least 18p down, that is, had the 'Buy Back' done what it was supposed to do, even so, AHL's much improved performance and the t/o news should be enought otake it up into 112p. Manny Roman and GS ex's are certainly hedging against ordinary investors.
As for the 'Buy Back' Ive been through it all and come up with the RNS of March 14 2014 showing a big discrepancy, as such:-
RNS for March 13th Share repurchase:-
Man Group plc announces that on 13 March 2014 it purchased for cancellation 855,000 of its ordinary shares at an average price of 104.51 pence per ordinary share pursuant to its $115 million share repurchase programme, details of which were announced on 27 February and 6 March 2014. The highest price paid per share was 106.00 pence and the lowest price paid per share was 102.10 pence.
Following the cancellation of these shares, the remaining number of ordinary shares in issue will be 1,818,750,631 (End of RNS data March 13)
RNS for March 14th Share repurchase:-
Man Group plc announces that on 14 March 2014 it purchased for cancellation 1,107,112 of its ordinary shares at an average price of 102.32 pence per ordinary share pursuant to its $115 million share repurchase programme, details of which were announced on 27 February and 6 March 2014. The highest price paid per share was 104.70 pence and the lowest price paid per share was 100.70 pence.
Following the cancellation of these shares, the remaining number of ordinary shares in issue will be 1,818,987,036. (End of RNS data for March 14)
Therefore, the way I see it, subtracting 1,107,112 shares cancelled on March 14th away from March 13th remaining 1,818,750,631 shares works out to be 1,817,643,519. Yet the March 14 RNS states that 818,987,036 were remaining.and that assumes only 236,405 were cancelled.
Showing a discrepancy of 1,343,517
So, if I am correct, where did those 1,343,517 shares go to? Average price for that day was 102.32p. So not quite what I initiated previously in my rougher calculations, but still over £1.37 million adrift, (that could have been more as the highest prices were up to 104.7p). Yet no word of rectification from Goldman Sachs or Man group. Are they so arrogantly blase that they don't think anyone will check the figures even if they don't?
