Lol zeb, no the depth doesn't matter does it. Each section of pipe is directly below the floor. They don't have to go all the way down to retrieve the next piece of pipe.. The entire drill string sits in the slips...that is tapered gadget that you normally see one or two people lift out every time they attach or detach a new section of pipe.
Pulling out singles on that 80 t in a nice easy rhythm is no sweat
So, the process. Lift up the drill string with the block, throw in the slips below the next pipe joint, lower the block a tad to set the string in the slips, break the joint and spin it off. Now there will be a 10 m approx length of pipe hanging off the block, lower it down and guide it into the pipe rack and then latch onto the top of the pipe that is sitting in the slips, take the weight of the string and lift it a few inches, pull the slips and then lift the entire string up another 10m, chuck the slips back in and do it all again. One cycle might take 1.5- 2 minutes approx.
Not sure about how much they have pulled, but it should be out before the weekend unless they only work half a shift.
