RE: What about Venn?5 Jan 2022 12:12
Hi moniman,
I think it might be misleading to get too hung up on the exact name , 'OpenOrphan' : where the 'orphan' bit is just taken to mean a pharma product that hasn't been developed yet, for whatever reason. That could be because early stage, of uncertain application , or because it's not commercially viable (eg a rare condition).
The ORPH core proposition (hVivo + Venn) AIUI is primarily CHIMS and CRO, with 'bits and bobs' thrown in that meet the loose ' not developed yet' tag that morphs into 'not yet commercially exploited/exploitable'. And not just product, I think they use the term to cover 'data'
Under this broader conceptual umbrella, you can then throw in :
- Imutex with flu-v (novel ie unproven delivery approach) and ags-v (broad spectrum 'all mosquito saliva-borne diseases', malaria, dengue, zika etc, again a relatively unproven delivery approach);
- spinout POLB's immunomodulator POLB-001, repurposing from arthritis towards respiratory, see https://www.poolbegpharma.com/pipeline/polb-001/;
- PrepBiopharm, a viral prophylactic, with novel 'nasal delivery' approach; and
- the disease progression database that they hope to exploit commercially , in 2 ways AIUI, first by broad licensing arrangements , via DIM; and secondly via bespoke access transactions for specific 'data mining', similar to what's currently 'in-house' ie the POLB endowment/arrangement.
That's how I think of it, anyway, which works for me as a plausible way of making sense out of the mish-mash !
Very much IMO. Happy for corrections/clarifications /comments.....!
