RE: Reuters - for those that are interested....4 Nov 2025 18:38
I think the "background buyer" was (primarily, not solely) responsible for the move from single digits to double digits, shortly after the CNR sale went through. I was (pleasantly, obviously) suprised by that move, as I wasn't really expecting much to happen until we got closer to La India production.
Since then however, the picture is less clear. If there is still a background buyer, which there may well be, then they may have been largely neutralized by a background seller, who I suspect is probably Jim Mellon, and I mentioned this possibility very early on in my MTL membership.
The recent drop is in-line with most of the rest of the sector, following the wobbles in the gold price itself. A complete over-reaction in every way as far as I can see, given that a.) the gold price as I write remains at a pretty handy $3943.50, way beyond virtually all current miner's costs, and MTL's particularly, and b.) that the sector generally had hardly been pricing-in that higher gold price to begin with.
As always, what will happen in the short-term is a bit of a coin-toss, although I like to think we could hold 12p. The long-term is bright, for all the reasons we already know about. Thus, the down-side appears to be pretty limited, and the upside looks very attractive.
