Using the profits to pay for Davy and KBC is a Bank acting more like a growth company than a blue-chip dividend payer. I can understand why they are doing this, it is a sound financial move. It will see more growth and build a huge cash buffer for them. I don't think they'll get buying opportunities like that again for a while and they'll find that they'll have to either increase dividends or ramp up the buyback program over the next few years.
It's the buy-back program that's significant imho, it's a new avenue for them and could drive the share price much higher over the next few years, and we haven't even had any Interest rate rises yet, how much higher will profits climb when that happens considering the KBC deal would see them owning nearly 30% of the mortgage market!!
