City-dwellers experiencing load shedding at least twice a day

Adviser for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan told Deshkal News, “We are facing delays in LNG imports because of high prices in the spot market. We don’t have long-term agreements with major suppliers, so we are exploring cheaper options. However, in the coming winter months, demand will decline, and loadshedding will not be a major issue. Even now, the current load shedding is very insignificant compared to the previous situation when people faced three to four hours of power cuts.”

Energy expert Professor Shamsul Alam told Deshkal News, “This government is following the same path as the previous one. They did not prioritise domestic energy exploration and relied excessively on imports. That’s why this situation has emerged.”

The more you read it the more ludicrous the situation!!…..Bangladesh owes Adani nearly half a billion dollars yet they poke them with a stick to the point they may turn off the generators!!…..this is a government playing up over high charges for lecky yet its Chief minister Yunus has made millions from high extortionate interest loans to the poor….his excuse would be well there’s nowhere else for the poor to go….Ive always cringed at that business model….

India’s Adani Power Limited has warned that it will suspend electricity supply to Bangladesh from 11 November if outstanding dues are not cleared by 10 November.

In a letter dated 31 October addressed to BPDB Chairman by Adani Power Vice-Chairman Avinash Anurag, the company said that the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has yet to pay $496 million in arrears, including $262 million in acknowledged but unpaid bills.

“If all outstanding payments are not settled by 10 November, we will be compelled to suspend power supply to Bangladesh from 11 November,” the letter reads.

The company noted that despite repeated communications and multiple letters — the most recent sent on 27 October — BPDB has failed to clear its dues. Adani Power further mentioned that under clauses 13.2(i)(i) and (ii) of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed on 5 November 2017, it reserves the right to halt supply in such circumstances.

The last time the interim cuckoos had a set too with adani over unpaid dues and had a dig at their contracts Adani broke down the generators and created a right situation…..I personally don’t think now is the time to launch action against the power station owner as Bangla are really not on a sound energy footing with anyone……this should be the next govts agenda as it’s mentioned in the bnp 31 point plan to deal with these plants,it needs to be done at the same time as a domestic coal extraction order is issued,that gives the govt big leverage……international arbitration will go on for years,Adana has wriggled off bigger hooks than a temporary govt

From an e&p interview a few weeks ago..commentator said if the coal fields had been further south they would have been excavated years ago,so basically nothing to do with the environmental protection it has been lack of transmission infrastructure and rail infrastructure,to transport fuel/energy,that now looks like it will be part of the master plan for Teesta….Teesta cannot develop off the back of a poorly maintained poorly supplied power station at Bara,it needs the new mine mouth power plants at phulbari…….the northern districts have been neglected for too long,
