Hi Stickybob. Market Makers hold shares, which you can buy or sell to them. Without them it would have been necessary for you to strike an individual deal with someone holding shares and willing to sell them, so you could buy. That would be a clunky way to operate and so they provide liquidity that allows people like us to buy and sell. They are often accused of manipulating the price at which they buy and sell but are a necessary evil.
If you are worried, instead of being all in or all out, expatbrat beat me to it and provides sensible advice. Consider selling an amount equal to either the profit you have made, or your initial investment and let the balance enjoy the ride (up or down)? That's something investors often do to minimise risk of loss. This has been a very rapid and substantial rise on VLS and so not typical of shares in general, so enjoy this one.
