Feels like someone in Germany is getting optimistic that there may be more Balkan deals with that German engineering group who did the Greek deal.

That deal was intended to lead to other new business in a “Cookie Cutter” smaller units business model.

Should there be dividends they are most likely to be four times a year but sometimes in the early years they might be one offs special dividends.

Institutional buyers in Canada will add value to the stock if there are predictable quarterly dividends though and that is probably what PB is aiming for.

Dividends are not the most efficient way of returning capital for Canadians with buybacks much better for high net worths and high income tax payers like the management. Tax rate is effectively double or more on dividends.

I bet Credit Suisse and DB make a packet on the arbitrage even without shifting a single share!

Also lived in Hohn near Hagen which was beautiful, not Hagen, also the wild higher rough ground east of Hagen was bleak but wonderful.

Germany holds good memories for me, small private ones like gypsy sauce, spezi and Imbis restaurants. My only advice on going their is avoid Applecorn, it’s the work of the devil!

There are two very clear known risks here:

Firstly auto picking of rubbish is set to improve radically. That auto picking will remove high value waste which is worth more than the energy value that can be extracted by incineration or by Eqtec.

That’s a process that is simply going to happen and make chip 20%~30% of the calorific value of the waste as a feed stock over time.

To see this technology in action check out robot pickers in the food industry looking for inferior or damaged products. In ten years they have become the norm and very effective solutions and that technology will be ruggedised and applied to waste more and more.

Secondly point is our departure from the EU is hugely significant (this is not political!)

The reason being is currently the regulations on what can become waste are almost useless. The EU is bedevilled with trying to keep 27 governments happy so it’s a poor very ungreen compromise.

Post Brexit the UK now has the ability to prescribe the containers that are used for packaging. This will radically reduce the amount of non recyclables simply by reducing the dozens of plastics used by being that number down to a single dozen or so and secondly banning mixed packaging that is essentially non recyclable.

This will cut volumes substantially and ironically raise the volumes and profits of those, often EU packaging companies who with the European Commission, will now have a reference for “Doing the job better.” Those packaging companies have been crying out for this approach which of course moves many of the small players due to volume production over time.

On the big plus side however Eqtec’s solution can handle mixed waste so as the calorific count declines re the above they have the ability to blend the feed with other high energy, but low value waste, such as timber waste from forestry etc.

So the changes are actually likely to impact the incinerator operators over time but with only minor changes to solutions like Eqtec’s they will have few issues.

EQTEC (EQT): Ready For Deployment

The Green Revolution dream clearly gave momentum to proprietary advanced gasification technology group EQTEC. But the reason for the relatively high placed inclusion in the top 20 of 2020 was the “rug pull” provided to the bulls by Aries Clean Energy’s US patent infringement claims. For some reason stock market cynics complained regarding the close proximity of the £10m placing earlier in July and the legal run in. However, all of this proved to be a buying opportunity in the stock from below the 0.5p level, something which would have been rewarded by the stock doubling by the end of the year. What was noticeable is that the Fintwit crowd were almost unanimously backing the buy the dip idea, hence also backing the idea of the inclusion of EQTEC at number 10 in the hit parade. In terms of newsflow the recent highlight has been EQTEC awarding an independent technology and market review to Wood Group and a non-binding heads of terms with Wood and Deltasource to help ensure the effective deployment of EQTEC technology into the global energy-to-waste sector.

And this is a tease, I wonder what he means?

Friday was the day that they announced this previous R&D company was now a serious player in the rubbish to gas business based on technology where there is no need for a huge leap of faith for the finance house. And that’s what they need to bring in the billions of finance that is required with EQT quietly sitting at the centre of the chess board.

Take a look at EQT which recycled rubbish and generates gas in the process.

As to whether it or TXP outpace each other that’s not clear to me but both have huge leveraged upside and I have both in serious size.

Plus it’s a nice non resources diversification.

Problem is if your sitting on 300% upside as some are then your logic is probably being affected by the size of that embedded gains. That I think is one factor in Canada where the brokers often do “Reviews” this time of year to generate business plus a few more things which fade after Christmas Day.

For every bit of substance like today’s announcement the blue sky in the current valuation slips away at around 80% of any upside generated by these substantive pieces of news.

That’s why the current moves have been modest since Cascadura 1.

But there is a point when there is no blue sky left and good news will be fully reflected in the price.

We just need to get through this turbulence and post Cascadura well 2 test results is probably that point.

All the hot money has left by now as the AGM came and went and Billingham too.
