What we do know is the public health benefits will determine usage and at present cannot see the govt allowing it for sometime to come. We will see what transpires with RTC outcome.

At present the UK government will not allow retail sales of antibody tests to the public and it will be some time before they do. Why would they and what would be the benefits of doing so from a public health perspective? Antibody testing is for epidemiology studies at least initially, not for immunity passports. Re rest of world maybe but suspect our customers will be governments, they may not be as profitable but volumes will outweigh smaller margins imv.

Not sure there is any competition for tests, that do not require to be used by professionals as yet. None have been approved by MHRA as far as I am aware. At some point there will be some who will then be competition, sure demand will exceed supply for at least a 6 to 12 months. There is also the argument that antibody tests are of no value as we do not know how long immunity lasts, very true and we will not know that for many months. If WHO thought there was no value in tests why recommend. Other arguments are the Govt will pull out of Rtc, possible but unlikely unless it fails to meet spec and no indication of that yet. What else have we got, oh yes poor PR, an issue that has been mitigated. Gkb47 they may have for trial purposes only they are trialling many tests as part of the evaluation process. The govt may also use others outwith the RTC if they meet the spec we will find out soon enough.

Gkb47 I doubt the government were able to purchase the Fortress tests, they at least need a CE mark and can only be used professionally. They do not state any accruracy levels which is telling in itself. They may have been checking them out as all suppliers are entitled to submit tests for approval but most will fail as the specification has set the bar high.

The government asked diagnostic suppliers to submit tests for assessment in April. They all require to be evaluated.

Its a lab based one, with POC in development. They are a bit behind ODX. Market size in US interesting, there are lots and lots of tests being developed across the world which is not surprising given the market demand. Odx at full capacity can only suppply a very small percentage of demand.

Apologies do not have a times subscription. The use of testing sewage for covid is an absolute essential tool for detecting outbreaks early. If you can detect early before symptoms appear and individuals are tested once they show signs, it is likely to have already spread and the track and trace then has to catch up. To keep levels of transmission in the community near zero you would need to be able to identify at a local level, not just a town or city but even more granular level, e.g. hospitals, schools, offices, factories, etc. That being the case the potential market is very large or am I misunderstanding the nature of what is being developed? Thoughts welcome.

It's a possibility and you can see advantage re data collection for surveillance testing. Think it's for governments to decide, there maybe issues around data protection/sharing, the spec does not really mention data collection if I recall!

Testing will happen as part of your check in process both travelling to and from destinations, whilst it will not eliminate risk it will reduce significantly and provide passengers with confidence to travel. The problem is fast, cheap, reliable and accurate testing kits are not available yet in the volumes required. Priority for governments is creating the testing capacity required and this is what they are attempting to create. Maybe by Xmas the capacity will be available lets hope so. Its only a matter of time before a outbreak is connected to a flight imv in the interim we will have to live with potential quarantine when travelling.

Interesting idea we will see what outcome of trial is in time. It can only be used by a professional so not suitable for mass testing. Cost could be an issue as well if professional required to take the blood unless I am reading it wrong.

It's a lab based test for doing surveillance on NHS staff primarily. Contract value £5m, relatively small value as proportion of the money available for testing. ODX will not be the only supplier in any country, different tests will be used for purposes. You cannot use lab testing for mass population testing easily, accessabilty, cost, reliabilty and ease of use are key requirements. Odx fits these needs.

Upomega we know they have put aside a good chunk of the fund raise for product development and enhancement, you can bet these will cost more, so would expect the 21/22 budget to reflect this. The question for me is what is the strategy for using the covid bonus that is anticipated, further product development either organically or acquisition? Dividend policy is bound to be a consideration. Think it will a few months before we get a further strategy insight, as focus will be on delivering current strategy but they will be thinking about opportunities medium to longer term, I await with anticipation.
