RE: WHAT WENT WRONG19 Sep 2025 09:49
A conservative estimate of the value of the sawmill, veneer factory and general planet equipment is around $20 million. This is according to my research from reviewing each financial year and market prices. This factors in depreciation.
There is also asset value from machinery, but ok it's possible some of this has been damaged, rented or is in poor condition. But let's say an additional couple million.
Then there is the value of the landmass biological assets. This is where things get difficult to assess.
Woodbois has natural resources over valuable woodland for 40+ years in a landmass the same size as Wales. It really is an enormous amount of landmass which Woodbois oversees in Gabon. However how much of this is usable ? How much of it is luxury wood? How practical is it to extract and how cost efficient is it to process such wood ? This is the million dollar question.
In the past former directors such as Pelham were very enthusiastic about the potenital dollar value of the biological assets. $1BN was even mentioned. However this position clearly may have shifted.
What's clear however is that the asset value of the thousands of hectares of Gabonese woodland is where the intrinsic value of this company lies. Previous accounts put this biological assets value at over $100m but perhaps that is far too optimistic. Let's throw a dart for arguments sake and say $40m-$50m as is.
It's impossible to put an accurate dollar figure on this amount. However let's be extremely conservative.
Factory/plant/building assets + equipment/machinery = $25m-$35m
Biological assets = $40m-$50m
Therefore total gross assets should be around $80m. I don't think this is an unreasonable guesstimate, feel free to disagree.
Debt is where it gets tricky. Let's be melodramatic and suppose current debts = $30m
Cash flow is also obviously a huge problem
Tight working capital.
Many overheads - employees, rents, taxes etc too.
Basically what I'm arguing is the Auditors really do have a tough job on their hands. It's not as simple as auditing a UK based business. There are very grey areas here. One thing that is without a doubt though is that woodbois' gross assets value do in fact exceed their gross debts. All is not lost.
Patience is a virtue. However lately I struggle with this.
Do your own research. Any thoughts ?
