[Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) scraps public disclosure of short selling]
LONDON, July 11, 2023 (Reuters)
The UK government said on Tuesday it would no longer require short sellers to publicly disclose their trades on UK companies.
A short position is a bet that a company's stock price will decline. Under the rule change funds will no longer have to tell the public their individual net short positions on a stock.
While short sellers will still have to report their positions to the regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the threshold at which positions have to be disclosed would increase.
Imho, this is totally wrong. What made them decide that the public should now not need to know? That's madness 😠

@ wealth transfer
I agree they have to do something dramatic and news worthy to get this back where it should be.
1 excellent rns with great figures plus reduced debt on track
2 restore interim dividend @£5p so total for the year £10p
3 future share repurchase program.
I do not agree with selling of assets or family silver .
@moonman
Yes all tax allowances have been reduced, unfortunately that is the current government’s decision.
You being a higher rate would pay more on dividend and if you sell ie on capital gains .
Not that you would have much to pay if you sold at the moment.
Share buy back maybe further down the line would be beneficial,
big institutions want returns on investments and restoring the interim Divi at 5p so total 10p
For the year would attract lots of new investors.
It would also improve and give the share price stability.
Without the returns there will be no new investment.
Share price would decline further only my view .
Good to have a view different views .
GLA 🙏
To attract investors in this share you would need higher than 5% as this will soon be passed
On to savers by the banks ,
As stated before to keep big investors on board the interim dividend needs to be restored.
At 5% giving a return at 10% total for the year .
This in turn would create many buyers looking for a greater return than the high street banks.
Plus growth potential.
In 2018 the full year Divi was around 14p per share .
