Beo. Yes of course vod pay tax on profits, but he stated dividend tax which is not the same, so he is talking nonsense. If vod paid no divi, it would still have to pay tax on profits. If you pay tax on a divi & then re invest the divi, then that is inefficient, but if you need income then it may be more efficient than selling shares.

Antom.... There is only one tax paid on divi's. It is called dividend tax & is paid on divi's above £500 per year if you are a standard rate tax payer. If you have shares in an I.S.A. you pay nothing. So why do you say otherwise?

KevRow. Unfortunately this forum gets a lot of know it is all's (not me), but I think the lesson in buyback yield metrics has to take it all. It would be nice if we could all get back to basic common sense. The divi yield is about 5.4% & if the sp goes up, which I hope it does, the yield % will fall.

Thegoldrush. You said. -5.4% dividend yield. -9.1% buyback yield. In effect the return to shareholders is 14.5%. What are you talking about? Please explain because your figures make no sense. How do you get a -9.1% buyback yield? Come on, it is confusing enough already? Why do you put a - in front of the yield?

It's a shame Garonne can't stop his obsession with Margherita buying vod shares. It is not her job to pump the sp by buying shares, although she does own a lot anyway.
