Thank you roofer. I was disappointed with the finish today expecting higher, but I will go 1.14 for next Friday. I hope we can get to 1.20 before the the buy backs finish. Hopefully there will be a new buy back scheme in the future because I think they are working in the long run. Vod up about 60% over the last 2 years, so vod have been buying back shares on the cheap over that period. I may even top up my holding, but need to wait for the new tax year, as I never buy shares outside an I.S.A. Good luck to all positive vod share holders. That includes Margarita. Share buy backs. It is very simple, If vod buy back shares at 1.10 & the share price goes up to 1.12, then vod (us the shareholders) have saved 2p per share on the shares we (vod) have bought back. If you don't get this please go back to school. Basic maths. I good day today, so lets hope it continues.

Curtin. Old news but good news. If Vod cancel shares they bought back at a discount to the now share price, that is very good for vod & its shareholders. To explain. If vod buy back shares at 1.08 & they are are cancelled at 1.10, they cancel more shares for the same cost. This is just simple maths . Buy back, s/p rises good, Buy back sp falls, bad. Basic maths. One day???

With vodafone (Us the shareholders) losing money lately with the buybacks (over paying), It is not looking good, But it can all turn on a sixpence when as Dinero says this stupid war cools off. Vod (looking for value buy back shares on the cheap) then the sp rises. good. vod buy back shares (not on the cheap) because the sp falls bad. (the cancellation of the shares just balances out) Basic common sense. . One day you may get it? Good luck in the meanwhile.

Colbee. Of course vod is buying back shares to reduce the share count. That means each share owns a larger slice of the company, so each share is worth more. If each share is worth more, then we the shareholder who own vodafone are making money. Of course as I have said we have to take into account the cost of buying the shares. But this cost is reduced if vod buy back the shares & then the sp rises. We are vodafone, why don't you get that? But shall we just agree to disagree, because as long I am making money on vodafone over the last 2 years, I don't really care that you don't get it. Time to move on. good bye.

Colbee. As I said I am not going to resort to tit for tat insults. But if you say what happens to the share price afterwards is irrelevant to vod, then you make no sense. If I thought, they thought what happens to their share price is irrelevant then I would sell all my shares now. Sorry Colbee, & with no disrespect, are you just reading from a script, or do you actually think before you post, because you make no sense. Of course vod cares what happens to it's share price.

You are correct when say "We remainers end up with bigger shares in a smaller business & profit a bit more if the business grows" Which is exactly what I have been saying all along. If the business grows, the share price will rise, if the business doesn't grow (falls) the share price will fall. For buy backs to work for vod (& it's shareholders) the business (& share price) has to grow.

If vodafone buy back shares at £1.11 then cancels them, it increase earning per share, but of course it has to pay for those shares. If the sp stays the same then there is no gain. But because as it bought the shares back at £1.11 & the sp rises to £1.12 it was able to buy back more shares than if it had bought them back £1.12 & therefore is able to cancel more shares, thus increasing earning per share even more than had it waited & paid £1.12. That is a profit to vod & it's shareholders. If the sp had fallen though it would be a loss as it would have over paid for the shares. I have given an historic example of vod buying back shares at over £2, which was obviously a loss to vod & it's shareholders. Vod buy back shares & the sp rises= profit. Vod buy back shares & the sp falls = loss. Vod buy back shares if it thinks they are undervalued & the market will decide if they correct, with a rise in the share price, thus returning value to shareholders as is their stated aim.

This is the oldest example of vod buying back shares I can find.(on this site} Vod bought back 13.256,000 shares at £2.19 per share. in 6/11/2017. If you can't understand that was a massive loss for vodafone then you have completely lost the plot. This is all just common sense. Vod buy back, sp rises, profit, vod buy back, sp falls, loss. If you disagree with me that's fine, but you need to explain why, otherwise just go back to school, please!
