Your post to your surname namesake made me laugh, as although I made a lot of money in the early days, on privatisations & opening up b/society ac's to get free shares, I perhaps became a (telly tubby) in my later investments. Of course all my posts on here tend to be positive, but perhaps I am a bit out of my depth now. I come on this forum to learn & also to follow my large investment. Ok, so my post about O.F.A.H. was a bit insensitive, but I was just trying to make a point that giving up work to make money on the stock market is not a good idea. What I will never get though, is those who own vod shares & are constantly moaning. Its bad enough waking in the morning seeing the sp plummet, without the constant expletive moaning. Apart from the obvious contenders, who else wants to a pop at someone who simply got it wrong, & is prepared to admit it , any more. There are many of you out there who have lost as much, or more than me, but are to afraid to admit it. I just move on.

I have never averaged down, I don't even re-invest my divi's, I have just built up a large holding of vod shares over many years as I thought it was a good investment. Looks like I got it wrong, but to bail out now might be the wrong thing to do. Any idiot with hindsight can say I should have sold a long time ago.. Great thing hindsight, bad thing I told you so bragging.

Does that mean if vod's net deb't was 30 billion higher that it is now, it's enterprise value would be 91 billion. If so, why would a fair takeover price be closer to that value & not the market cap? Why would anybody taking over vod pay for a deb't?

When you say the vod enterprise value is 61billion, is that after paying off all it's deb'ts?

Hi jack d. Thanks for that, I am however not a hardened investor, but unless O.F.A.H. is a 15 year old, then I think you all are being a little bit patronising to most new investors. My point is, clever people work, but fools & horses don't. O.K . we all love dell boy, but perhaps O.F.A.H. took it all at bit too literally. I have won & lost a lot of money, but even when I was young & new to it, I didn't moan, or expect people to feel sorry for me. O.F.A.H. & all the other immature moaners need to grow up for everybody's sake.

Sorry if appear uncaring, but I am down over £100 thousand in the last year, but I try not to cry. Perhaps O f A H should not have given up work in the 1st place. This is not for cry baby children. We could all have made an exit, if we believed it. If however the Times knew something untoward, but held it back, then what?
