ItsaNightmare. What are you talking about. Since vod sold verizon, the verizon sp has increased by about 20%. Where do you get this 1516 now 4014from? Come on, please talk sense? I agree verizon has been a better investment since vod sold it, but please don't talk nonsense just to make that point? When did you buy verizon at 1516pence??

Forget verizon, A mistake with hindsight, but vod shareholders could have held there verizon shares which have increased by about 15%. I think though it was reasonable for vod to take the profit at the time & invest in vodafone, not a U.S. firm. The prize goes to the takeover of Mannisman for 190 billion euros. That makes vod's deb't look like peanuts. But that's history. I don't think we can blame Read for that. I guess it was a different world then. Those were the good old days, when we used phones to talk to each other, not send messages,& photos of your dinner! It's like someone re inventing the telegraph! Sorry, Just saying! Not a bad day today though, I think me, (no funds) & the man with the curse(c.s.d.i) may have missed the low, before the recovery. But what do I know? You don't need to answer that. sidi. I think you will get your 132.74 back soon. I am just lucky I didn't have a lot of spare money yesterday,because I thought the sp would go up today. Lucky me? I've only lost £***** today! But it could have been worse. I still plan to top up soon though.

A divi should always be excess capitol or profit. A company should always primarily sustain or increase its n.a.v. & share price, & then pay a divi with what's left over. But back in the real world??

Hi robleo. I personally don't think vod should stop paying a divi, but if it did,it could use that money to invest for growth. mole thinks vod should invest. I don't know. As for staying invested, if vod pays no divi its share price should increase by the amount it would have paid out in divi's, so that is a good reason to stay invested. As I have said many times,the divi comes straight out of the sp on ex divi date.

mole-man. Thanks for your very informative posts. But here is the big question, If vod axed it's divi so it could either pay off debt,or invest in some of the things you are suggesting, would the share price drop like a stone as suggested, or something else? I know I am asking a very difficult question, but who better to ask? It's not that black or white I think.

robleo. hello Amigo. I am all for the divi, my income is all based around it, but I don't kid myself that it doesn't come out of the share price. It is a fact, ex divi day the sp drops by the divi. As long as we all accept that, that's fine. It is not a freebie.

robleo, nobody knows, If they did, there would not be a stock market. If you stick with funds, or trusts, you pay for them to get it wrong instead? But they may get it right more often, but at a cost. I am losing money here, but what part of investing on the stock market is a big risk, don't you lot get? Marcus, vodafone have to buy back there own shares because of the bonds issued, not to boost the sp, but to stop its dilution. It's the bonds (loans) that help pay for the investment & the divi. Again I have to refer you to mole-man, who may explain it better. Sorry mole, but they just don't listen!
