Rukwa has always been a helium hot spot, its a sweet spot in the EARS and just the right distance from the volcanoes to give a cleaner mix of gases.. Thats provided the Uni Boffins got it right..

Now while we're drilling we're using a weighted mud
which has been going to a mud recycling unit that's got something called
a possum belly that's a hat on top of it which collects gases as it comes out of the mud.
We're feeding that into a Multi spectral gas analysis
so we can record helium readings from mud cuttings in real time
if we get an area of elevated helium which will be a certain level above base background level uh then we will be able to report that to the market as a helium SHOW

A helium show is great it means helium in the system
so it's a qualitative indication that helium is there, it's not a quantitative analysis but it shows the system is working
and helium is being generated and stored and trapped

What we would then do on completion of a hole is we run down a wire line suite,
so the standard set density specs, spectral gamma and something called an NMR tool which is going to identify porosity and hopefully identify if the pore space is filled with water or gas.

Now the NMR tool is designed for hydrocarbon, helium nitrogen mix absorbs neutrons in a different wave than hydrocarbon does so we're having to adjust the tool and adjust our mindset to try to read this.

But if we're able to identify *****------reservoirs with a seal above them and that's adjacent to a helium show ---------***** then we have what's called a ***helium discovery***** ,that's the boy

what we're then going to try to do is flow the well
what we want to do is to try to secure a sample of that gas"

Nas-K, DM said the intention was to drill the holes suitable for production, I would guess at least the hole will be drilled cased as for production, and the top finished depending on a discovery or duster.. Unlike last year where we were to have exploration wells, followed by appraisal wells if a discovery was made..

The measured gas bubbling in the mud was classed as a "show", the level has to be above background levels.
Its an indication of helium, not a quantitative analysis.

I "guess" they had not fully established back ground levels when the first Show appeared, and thats why it was an un-calibrated reading.. Not because the equipment was not as should be..

According to DM there's three types of discovery

1. helium gas show, the helium which is the gas in mud
2. helium discovery, which is reservoir identified in wire line
3. and then there's the flow which is when we get our sample

Best things about two drills, besides 2 possible discoveries is that it is not a binary play on the first hole..
That attracts more investors and for the brave a price cushion if a duster 1st hole.
If a duster 1st hole there will be plenty reading for the bounce..

I am not a drilling guru.. so I could be talking rubbish, in that case hopefully somebody will make corrections..
The definitive gas sampling test was to be the packer test, sealing off a section(show) to sample.

The drilling fluid was constantly monitored for gas and they did provide the 2% value from gas taken from mud samples.
Although it was only 2% initially, and persisted closer to 1%..
They also said they would report further shows percentages if they were higher than the previous reading?

So you could say they tested continually..

1. The last section to be drilled was to be tested with no casing, likewise for any section.
The washout was said to be caused partly due to a combination of the pressure of the drilling fluid pumped through the tip and the slow progress.

For some reason I believe they cemented/cased the sidetracked section, so the final section to TD would have been one size smaller..
3. Casing pipes can be joined together...

I believe wire-line logging records formation details , and testing would have been the gas quality in our case..
Its possible to log through casing, but I believe we planned open hole logging and testing
Testing gas through casing requires it to be perforated before sampling.
5. Open hole testing, no casing
Not sure they would have known about the ledges until sending down logging equipment, but I dont really know..

At this point you have a hole in the gas tank.
I think it was said the drilling mud sealed the pores in the wall.
But at the same time it washed away the walls
Helium can also escape through steel...
