For under £6m big pharma could take a stake of under 3% of AVCT now and we wouldn't know. There could even be more than one.

Have there been precedents for a sub-TR1 stake to be followed by a big move or do they just come in with a big offer once they are convinced, not bothering with a small stake first? Do they try to save a bit of their cash by sneaking up? (Obviously I mean with other pharma takeovers in the past.)

Looking at Trellus (first day I'd heard of them) that 725% rise was presumably all PI driven. And the rise was because TRLS 'announced it has entered into an agreement with Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems Inc. to support a pilot in the US to assess the potential for the Trellus Elevate program to support patients with moderately to severely active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). '

So when pi's hear genuinely good news they will pile in, and not before, unless they are very lucky. IBD is a large market and the Trellus sp had been in long decline till yesterday. Things can turn around very quickly on news.
