RE: Quite satisfied28 Mar 2022 12:09
Fair enough wyn, but just a couple of points. CC said that DFS called eve, and it was eve that got the good deal (though of course they both hopefully got a good deal), and she said that France appears to be following the UK pattern of a bit of a delayed response to marketing spend, but then coming through; 'classic pattern'.
I appreciate 'she would say that wouldn't she' but she has does appear confident-ish. Also, they haven't spent a large sum on a UK advert (to get 50% airtime deal off channel 4) but has gone for a year's sponsorship with them instead. She is careful with the finances.
If eve had the cash for an advert, great, but since they haven't, at least she is being prudent with the cash that they do have.
Revenue is actually up again and she says that they still aim (who doesn't) for break-even or profit this year in the UK, and that they *could* organise to show a profit now, if they wished, but would rather grow the business. It does sound plausible.
You may be right with the going bust but you could still easily be wrong; we just don't know IMO, and perhaps CC doesn't either. These BBs are full of comments along the lines of 'invest in the board' and compared to AS, Richard Marsden or David Minchin, CC seems to be the one who says-it-like-it-is, the most.
What is beyond doubt is that the timetable has moved back a bit. I wonder whether it's by 6 months or perhaps a year...
I would like Director buys but frankly, they would do little to reassure me beyond a couple of weeks. Maybe they will come in the new tax year, or even now if Directors still have a bit of their allowance left over. A Director buy only helps for a brief moment and then the sp reverts to where it was.
DFS sales only went live on March 3rd and eve have sent over stock for DFS to deliver. They might have sent a decent amount. Eve might not know exactly how well or not things are going. I can't see CC on the phone every day for 20 days asking how things are. Even if DFS said 'fab, brilliant, like hot cakes' could CC say more than, in the style of AS 'we're pleased with the results' which actually doesn't help much anyway. She didn't want to raise their importance above the others they supply through, such as Next and Dunelm; I guess that might offend those partners but DFS are bigger – and want to get into bedding as a growth area.
Maybe I'm too naive and going to lose my biggest portion of my PF. I do hope not as it's certainly more than I could comfortably afford to lose..
If you were away I hope you had a good break :)
