Today saw California tip the balance and more than 50% of the population are now fully vaccinated.
Couple that with full capacity there in just over a fortnight and we should really start to see some big box office and the subsequent sales rolling in.
Why on Earth would you make your first post as a fully paid up member one that is snarky, uninformed and is most likely to eliminate your credibility and integrity?
I really, really wonder.
* hopes sarcasm is evident*
Different beast.
Massive fight between the reddit army and the hedge funds.
And it looks like one of the funds has folded just before close.
We have shorters here but nothing like what's going on over there.
We'll just let actual market forces burn our shorters in the coming months. We don't need no Reddit army.
Excellent news.
By the time this hits in the U.S, California will be at 100% capacity (from June 15th).
Our other big state, New York, goes 100% from July 1st.
If it goes as expected and the world sees big numbers from that, then we will be well on our way.
You'll not understand where this sp stands at all after this weekend.
Anecdotal evidence is great to hear and is encouraging (which is why we're posting our own experiences) but one weekend in the UK will not determine where this is headed.
Waymarkers for sp direction THIS YEAR will be:
- After F9
- Cineplex case sorted
- H2 results
- Xmas Box Office
But our own experiences this week show that the public WANT to see movies, eat at restaurants and bars and NOT stay at home.
Positive signs but need to wait a while yet to see the markets regain confidence in cinema.
Yep.
Tried to get to Burger King on the same site as my Cineworld and the entire park was rammed.
Back to normal with people fighting over parking spots.
Excellent!
Sorry (not sorry) to turn this back to biscuits again but it's Mini-Cheddars and Shiraz here this eve.
Perfect combo to savour where this is heading over the next year or two.
Which reminds me.
A lot of impatience on here. That jolted a memory of on old proverb that's rather pertinent to recent sp movements here:
"A bull and his young son are grazing in a field when the young one notices that the farmer has left the gate open to the tens of cows in the field below.
The young bull says, 'DAD! DAD!!! Let's run down there quick and fuçk a cow and run back'.
The old bull slowly chews his cud. Turns round slowly and says calmly, "No, son. Let's walk down. And fuçk them all."
I ate the last hot dogs they had available when I went to see Mortal Kombat last night.
Was as full as it could've got for the moment.
Great atmosphere in the room, forgot what it was like to laugh with an audience.
We're back.
Sit back and let the numbers do the talking over the next six months.
I'm about to set off to watch Mortal Kombat in IMAX.
Which means I'm about to eat them out of all their hotdogs and ice cream like the fat wodge I am.
You can all thank me tomorrow for the huge sp spike.
Love and kisses, Crumpets. Xx
“Say ‘Fitch Ratings’ again! I dare you!
I Double-Dare you, motherfuçker!
Say ‘Fitch Ratings’ one more goddam time!”
I may have taken a little bit of artistic licence with that one.
Christian Bale for me.
Most actors tend to just play themselves in whatever film they're in.
Bale though plays a range of characters and also puts his body through the extreme ranges of what it's capable of as well.
California statewide data for 19th May.
Cases: 687
Deaths: 3
Population: Just under 40 million
You're all blinkered on the UK.
Meanwhile, in California, 50% of the adult population are fully vaccinated.
Another 15% partially vaccinated.
On June 15th, less than four weeks away, CA does away with capacity restrictions.
Come the end of summer and into the big winter season, admissions and box office will look very very different for Cine.
Keep cool, Fonzies.
Yesssss!
Managed to get Hançock through through the swear filter!!
Yep.
Vaccine works against the Indian variant.
Shots going to be geared up to 800k per day.
Hancock says Over 35's to be offered the vaccine this week.
Oh, and the 1 shot J&J jab to be approved for UK use this week as well.
But back to the Indian variant, I've copy and pasted this from Andrew Neil's Tweet:
"Important news from India: The Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi says on basis of an observational study that 97.38 per cent of those vaccinated were protected from the COVID-19 infection and the chances of hospitalisation after the vaccination are 0.06 per cent."
All brilliant news for us.
Happy Sunday and enjoy your drinks, all.
Bloody 'ell.
Even the lockdown-loving Guardian are championing the return of cinema now.
Nails it on the social aspect:
https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2021/may/08/popcorn-screams-mass-sobbing-why-i-cant-wait-for-cinemas-big-return
Not sure if posted earlier but LA County is now in the lowest restriction tier possible.
Not much of a change for us.
Just means the 200 max part is lifted. Still capped at 50% capacity though.
But California is on course for full lifting of capacity restrictions on June 15th.
A week before we do away with distancing here in the UK (hopefully) along with a load more states in the U.S it would be reasonable to assume.
Not long now until the big numbers pour in.
Thank you, Marvel.
That was probably the best PR exercise cinema could've got.
Not just showcasing their product but actually promoting watching it at the movies and what that social aspect is all about.
All backed up with release dates.
Bloody brilliant.
Nisan (Cineworld CFO) said himself in the last webcast that he expected the case to be resolved 'around the end of June'. This year.
