RE: How many here drive EVs?21 Jan 2021 12:11
Some good posts on this thrread.
I too do the best that I can, like many others have stated, and have changd my lifestyle greatly over the past 4 years (no more flying, growing my own, cutting back on meat, walking and cycling more, upcycling, composting, etc).
I currently have a 10 year old 4x4 diesel that is ideal for living in a remote and rural area that regularly gets cut off in the winter, but I do no more than 6k miles a year and will regularly walk 5k to the shops rather than drive. I will run this until it is no longer cost effective, fully expecting technology to advance in the next few years to give better choice when the time comes to replace.
I don't see it as hypocritical at all as the majority will be constrained (mostly financially, or for practical reasons) when it comes to, what is an expensive asset which currently may not provide a suitable alternative for everyone's needs.
Although we can all help to push for change and do the best we can in our own lives, it is governements and big business that are needed to influence the real changes needed, and the signs are promising that there is a will for this to happen (for the most part, anyway).
