I wrote via my MP to DHSC and Chancellor 2 weeks ago . I cited stupidity regarding a dangerous and ignorant decision. I did get a reply from a minister but not worth sharing as was a cop-out. This govt. is the weakest I have ever known. And I go right back. I also wrote another on Friday. I expect a U-turn if the govt. ever has the sense. Boris and the Caninet truly are out of touch. Always were. He is a joke PM. I resigned membership because of him.
Monday? Ho knows. Roll with anything.
Long term who cares? Ncyt will recover as their time starts now …beginning of winter. New CEO with marketing savvy. Cash. Buyback . Mm’s play games. They want our shares cheap . So I expect anything. Strong demand for pcr’s this winter. Today it seems Delta+ is seen as more transmissible. We’ll see. I never fail to be astounded by the technology of companies like Ncyt and other analytical bio-science companies. Their knowledge of coronaviruses ( flu/Sars-covid based etc) is immense and growing. I agree fully that we will have global systems in place over next few years to detect and control these ever-mutating devils. I was around when that horror polio was finally dominated by man in the Sixties. And the last case of Smallpox in W. Africa traced in -I think-1972. And other diseases since then. Smallpox was the biggest killer of mankind . And we have vaccines. Stupidly kept it in vials some of which stolen. The Plague knocked out 1/3 of Europe before antibiotics kept it under wraps. But it is still out there. And Rubella. Diptheria. Scarlet fever. Etc etc. Mankind is frigging phenomenal. We create the most horrific weapons in times of war out of necessity. And discover penicillin too( Fleming WW2) . The beginning of a new world for mankind. Our technology now is just mind-boggling. The companies who map viruses are just phenomenal. I hate doom-mongers who throw out depressing stuff about covid. Look at what we have done since March 2020( 20 months) . LFT’s. PCR’s. Constantly adaptive vaccines. Treatments which damned well save lives. Covid is no different in concept from any other viral disease. It mutates as almost every virus does. Even Smallpox and Polio!
So it attacks the immune system? Yes . But is nowhere near as transmissible as measles nor as globally threatening. And we ( apart from some countries e.g. Eastern Bloc 2017-18 ) control it.
So our incredibly evolving technology has Covid partially beaten already.Its real disruption has been economic and social ( and the 1-3% death rate) . It will just become another episode in mankind’s history. The world has learned a bl**dy good lesson from covid ( at the cost of lives of course.) I have lost friends too.
But it’s a blip on the history of mankind. A ripple on the pond as Einstein said.
Our technology will have it wholly under wraps soon enough although testing may now become the norm.
