Jing72, just saw your Dec23 post. Consolidation has been toyed with for years and YES there are some very strong arguments in its favour especially now with the anti-Tobacco lobby in full activity !!

Genghis15, TerryM1 very well knows this is an Investmemt Forum and has been here posting for a long while before you appeared !! In fact, when I started investing in Dec about 12 months ago there were perhaps 5 or 6 regular posters, but now there are many more which is great for different points of view and information.

Politics is very relevant for the share price of DEC and the O+G sector generally as it is for Tobacco, Pharma, etc.. , especially in an Election year when populist stirrings become more relevant.

All, Frustrating share indeed !! Wonder is a bid well and truly dead for now ? Acquisition by another insurer which has multiple growth markets already and could provide Aviva with economies of scale and more diversity in UK/Ireland and Canada would be a massive positive, but maybe too optimistic for now !!

Lukee, Excellent article from Oak Bloke and love his dry humour !! I've an OB (presume means Old Banger ?!!) myself, a small Ford, so can very much understand his comparison to the BMW, and could easily afford a much better bigger car, but couldn't justify it !! I've had one breakdown in over 3 years, my car is about 25% of the annual cost of running these massive 'tanks' (I call them) that are all the current rage 'owned' thru Finance most of them, and I enjoy being able to park more easily and squeeze thru smaller spaces that larger 'tanks' find difficult or impossible !!

Genghis15, much of what you say is why prvt investors put money in funds where specific analysts / teams of analysts spend their full time analysing these sectors and shares. One benefit of the share price at least not falling from the £9 - 10 area is that the Shorters will have to pay c 30% Div p.a. to continue shorting + any other costs !! I'm strongly Holding for now and not least because my unrealised losses here are well covered by realised gains I made on BA. today.

Getafgrip, an impairment of such a high amount hitting the P+L in one go smacks of incompetent Accounts staff spoken from my accounting background. As part of any annual audit, all B/S constituents should be accurately reconciled and agreed as reasonable. I accept that valuation methods and approaches can change, but that is a rarity, eg depreciation method, and the reason and detail of this Impairment needs full explanation.

Houthis are really pushing things. They need to receive much more aggressive attacks from US and UK to be taught a lesson. These attacks on innocent vessels off Yemen need serious punishment.

Danieldavis, society has become too soft, the poor fraudsters, the poor hackers and scammers, all poor darlings !! The Romans would have hung them upside down by the roadside for all to see as a deterent and it worked. Well said 37hillside. This Board has recently become much more engaging, except for gg who I ask not to comment on my post, and provides many varied points of view. It's a shame that these less experienced panic prone shareholders don't visit our board here before selling.

Bebeto, hopefully McCrae doesn't have many credit cards !! He's building up quite a collection of expensive debt and also diluting us. We are owners of this business and I am quite concerned, and hope he doesn't abuse our trust for his own sake.
