Darren042, Trump will destroy the US. Bully tactics do not work beyond the short-term. Already, countries outside the US are creating or consolidating closer relationships. Like a school bully, the US will end up alone and ostracised in the medium-term if Trump's policies continue. Factories take years to build and Republicans will be kicked out before then. Prominent Republicans are speaking out strongly already against Trump, eg Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell. Congress may also reverse Trump's tariffs as his basis for applying them is effectively illegal - America being attacked !! Not black and white by any means. Trump may also be blown up soon if we're really lucky !!

Inthewoods, China holds huge US debt so could always start causing problems for the US there as well. Problems for the US could also come from countries outside the US boycotting US outlets like McDonalds, etc..., not buying US computers, etc. ., that's where the US would really hurt !! I won't be going to the US later this year, was planning a holiday, due to Trump's actions !!

Oilheadgame, I've received divs after buying a share the day before it went ex-div. The record date is usually one or two days after the ex-div date. The Trading date surely is the relevant date rather than the Settlement date to be recorded on the Records, shouldn't matter when paid for similar to CGT ?

That's tough on you Badland. Considering how large the falls have been this week, maybe markets might stabilise somewhat on Monday, not to say that there won't be more falls. There are moves by US Democrats with the support of some Republicans, eg Rand Paul, Mitch McConnell, to force Trump to have to obtain Congress approval for any new tariffs and also to reverse all the current ones he has actioned. Once there's even a 'sniff' of success for the latter then the markets will bounce somewhat.

Rumpel, thank you for a very interesting informative video which makes a lot of sense. Nice to watch on a Saturday after yesterday's 'hurricane'. If one sells, buying back in can sure be a challenge due to feeling negative that the price might fall again and as it continues to rise then one might not buy back in at all and miss future gains !! We've all been there !!
