The Chinese are actually back tracking on electric vehicles - it came after the Vice president of China visited some of the big Japanese car producers - they are concerned over the availability of the various rare metals that are needed for batteries. They have removed certain government subsidies for research and development.

One potential alternative is steel cells powered by gas or hydrogen - a world leader in this technology is Ceres Power based in the UK - this is the highlight of my portfolio - in other words the only company that isn't showing red for me at the moment.

My aim is simply to respond to events - there is a great need to push things on here - any deadline missed - no matter how vague is till a deadline missed and it is still a minus.

There is a great need to be positive - CF simply cannot afford to be seen to be on the back foot - even if he is.

The main problem with this project in the interconnectivity of the various components - the shaft, tunnel etc - and the simple fact that to get to the polyhalite and revenue depends on so much of the lions share of the capital required being spent.
So even milestones like the TBM getting to the one mile mark are of little consequence.

In most other countries of the world this project would have had Government backing to provide a backbone - that is what would have mitigated risk for investors - personally I don't see project milestones being a substitute for this so sadly I think the only way forward is via the equity route.

I think that risk mitigation can only be achieved by overcoming the financial hurdles - be that by Government Guarantees, an equity stake to someone like the Qatar Investment Fund, Gina or another bid mining company - this project badly needs credibility - that is why CF has to be so careful what he says to the press.

One throw away remark in a press interview - since retracted by SM - and we are being compared to Flybe.

The trouble is though Myo that we can see all the good work but than be thrown away by just a few offhand remarks to the press.

Simply that he told the media that he would report back on the direction forward by the end of October - he didn't have to do that but the fact is that he did - that is a commitment.

The trouble is that if he doesn't do what he says he is going to do and if he makes mistakes like the one about taking the company private he will be seen as accident prone. The politicians will give him a wide berth and that may mean that Government Guarantees won't be forthcoming.

When you tell the worlds media that you expect to get a result of an enquiry at a certain time that to me is a commitment - CF made the commitment he should stick to it - what chance has CF got of reasserting control if he doesn't keep his commitments.

The long position can very quickly be liquidated if the SP falls - if the SP rises dramatically the profit on the cheaply brought shares will probably cover the losses on the shorts but maybe as you say not give much or any profit but it will generally mean that they don't suffer losses.

The shorts make their money when the SP is volatile - for every short position in a company they hold they also have a long position as a hedge - if the SP goes up on good news they make money that way - if it crashes they also make money.

Their skill is knowing when to buy, sell and cash out.

Don't forget that the shorts hedge their positions with long positions as well - so when we get good news they will make money on the long position - b*stards cannot loose.

The Kraken loads are very easy to measure when they go over to the US because they are governed by the tanker size that can get into Gulf Coast ports.

But with so many Kraken loads now going to different destinations the size of the shuttle tanker loads has sometimes crept up - it could be that Kraken has been producing at 50k for most of the summer.

I am actually fully expecting an update at 7am tomorrow - CF needs to reassert control.

That's just over 24 hours for a 500k load.

Its interesting and unexplained why the load is going to Rotterdam - the latest Alveheim load went to Scapa Flo for transfer to a tanker - that is also totally unexpected because all the loads from Alveheim that I have seen up to now have gone to Northern European refineries - we are seeing a change of markets for North Sea crude since the summer.

It will be interesting where this load ends up because there is no sign of a tanker at Scapa Flo.

Yes, I guess that follows because the original operator back in the 80's - BP - will be paying for around 93% of the cost of the fix - so basically the fix would be part of the decommissioning.
