The SP continues to fall here after the negative publicity associated with their Leicester sub-contractors factories.
It seems that legal proceedings may be pending regarding labour, HSE and corvid safety issues.

The Ocado deal is the future and it secures the future but the breakout will only come when the past is jettisoned - in other words the board have to put their plans into action and accelerate the closing of the unprofitable stores.
When the market sees the results of the intent things will change.

Sentiment is very bad towards M&S at the moment and the shorts are also doing their bit to hold back the SP - when that changes the SP could respond very quickly and certainly agree £1.50 later in the autumn and maybe £2.00 by Christmas - however its a long term hold and will I think go far higher than that especially if they take a hatchet to the store network.

The main thing is that they seem to have the will to radically change the business and unlike most of their rivals can do so without decimating it because of the Ocado deal. Their shareholders will back them 100%

It looks like the shorts pilled in towards the end of the day to push the SP down - there were almost twice as many buys as sells but the volume wasn't great therefore it was easy for them to create the volatility.
The trouble is that they probably borrowed some more shares this morning when the SP was higher to enable them to do the same thing again.

When I decided to take a punt with M&S I did so on one simple factor.
Ocado Retail have 1.7% of a UK grocery market worth £193.6 billion in 2019.
That market share can only increase - personally I think it will increase substantially.

Yes, that one decision by John Lewis management to break the ties with Ocado will basically end of costing them growing their business - they just have the job of managing the decline now.

Fortunes can change so quickly in retail - now its Waitrose and John Lewis that are up a creek without a paddle.
I bet they are wishing that they owned 50% of Ocado Retail.

I guess a placing is inevitable, if only as an insurance against a second wave, so its probably better to do it sooner rather than later and get it over with, its probably the only way the SP will recover in the long term.

Yes, the main thing is that M&S products will be available to Ocado customers in September.
Also the M&S website is going from strength to strength with the food boxes a big success.
In the future, as capacity builds, M&S customers can be enticed over to the Ocado site and visa versa.
Behind the scenes the supply side can be moved, where possible, to Ocado's CFC's.

M&S is at a very low ebb at the moment, it will be Ocado Retail that changes its fortunes.
I think that M&S is an excellent investment for that reason and it is logical for Ocado shareholders to also invest in M&S.
You can actually have two bites of the cherry but I would concede that Ocado is the better investment.

It certainly makes sense to have a shareholding in both companies.
The UK grocery market was worth £193.6 billion last year and Ocado Retail is now well poised to exploit that market.
The main stream supermarkets are now very vulnerable, they have a large bricks and mortar estate, home delivery and click and collect are a major additional expense to them and the discounters are also taking market share from them.
M&S also have to shut stores but they can now do that from a position of strength, what left will be modern large stores with high footfall, convenience stores with plenty of fresh produce and Ocado Retail - it has to be a strong long term buy.

I think that the SP is simply moving on day to day sentiment in a low volume, high volatility market that has little to do with the prospects of M&S and much more to do with the shorts exploiting the volatility.
This will I think continue right into the Autumn, if you are in the market to top up buy on the dips - good luck spotting them.

Forget lines - everything is sharks teeth - just the same as the recovery will be to the economy and the rise and fall in cases of coronavirus - that Black Swan is still circling and will be for a while yet.

The shorts are just playing with the low volume and volatility.
If we get a good news day they are letting the SP rise and borrowing more shares at the top of the spike then when we get a bad news day they are pilling in and causing a bigger dip than could normally be expected - like todays dip.
I guess we wont get a respite until the autumn.
There is a good case for banning shorting in this type of market.
