I fully understand that the market makers can take a position either to sell or to buy shares when they are aware that news is on its way. You could say that they gamble on the direction the shares will go, also probably knowing more than us private investors as to how the market will react.
They will definitely not deliberately sell shares knowing they will have to buy back at a higher rate….. therefore in the current Scancell situation why would they ‘Sell’ shares at 9.5p & 9.75p when there is very good evidence that they will have to pay much higher to balance the books.
I’m not convinced that they have inside knowledge that the data is going to be below expectations, thus giving them a profit in a later downward market.
So if they are not selling these shares from fresh air where are they getting them ?
If the market makers are buying those shares in an attempt to stockpile before the news event who would be disposing of Scancell shares so close to a definitive set of results.
Either scenario does not make any sense, so is something else happening ??
