CAKE was a rare share that held up over last week. Whereas most shares, certainly of mine, fell by around or over 5% largely over the last few days, CAKE actually rose. There is extreme volatility around right now, so heaven only knows what awaits us this week. Don't see why this (or most of my holdings) should be affected by the Chinese fall out, but that is how the market works to make its money. Good luck, tin hats on. Regards CM

Hi BT. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Sorry I have been a while getting back to you. I am South again right now, paying another visit to my mother now she is out if hospital. She is doing very well. Infact I've decided to nickname her Red Rum!. Caught her about to try the stairs this morning. What do they say about working with children and animals?, well you can probably add elderly parents to that!. Argh!. Beginning to wonder if the fund that sold much of its holdings at 330 knew something we didn't. Coincidence perhaps media sector started falling back almost immediately after and before general sell off. Had they sold all their holding it may have spooked the sp even more. There maybe some rally on Monday on Wall Street after such a fall yesterday but by how much and probably not before a further fall back here. Being away from home I really should have put stop losses on before leaving but wasn't expecting such a fall. My mind was on a wedding so not in a position to act financially. Always tempted to think it is too late to act now only to get hit further. Then by the time I do sell the share it starts to pick up. Time to reconsider my stop losses on all my holdings. Last sentence should have read, "bit like trying to judge a football teams performance in the league after 3 games. Hello DE. Good to hear from you. Reason to my head saying bail out is due to my stop loss strategy. Usually look at about 15%. However experience says that this can be wrong when looking at stronger companies, especially if the whole market is falling generally. I have made mistakes in the past by selling rather than holding firm however uncomfortable at the time. I agree with you that latest updates appear good with the company being on track to double in size over the next 5 years. Probably need to be far more patient and believe the good quality companies will pull through and shine. Regards CM starts poorly it is still likely to do well providing

Media sector getting kicked at present regardless of fundamentals. Looked a good buy here at 370 before that big sell at 330 the other week. Now its being dragged down with everything else. My latest "travels" has seen me drive South to my nephews wedding near Bath yesterday. Today I took the opportunity to visit the town for a couple of hours. Good news is I found a PV and it was very busy. Bad news is there was no room for me, so I had to go next door to a Cafe Negro for a coffee and a cake!. Share price holding up ok despite general market woes. Low volume. Market loves to have something to worry or cheer about. Sitting still for now. Good luck zll. Regards CM

About a week ago, I visited my elderly mother in my home town which I had moved away from more than 30 years ago. Whilst she was in hospital, I took the opportunity to visit the town centre for only the 2nd time during all those years. Many shops had closed, many shops had open and many had changed their occupancy. There was a new shopping centre/complex where previously there had been a brewery!. I was wandering around living in the past, remembering or trying to remember what had been what, busy talking to myself (nothing new there!). In the new complex there was a Patisserie Valerie (or however it is spelt)!. At 6.45 p.m it was quiet and so I took some time talking to the guy on duty. It seemed it was doing ok but once the schools go back it would be quiet again. What caught my attention was just how many cafes there were in the area. A street nearby was littered with cafes and restaurant (never use to be) with places to sit out and enjoy the dry and warm weather. PV wasn't in the most eye catching area of the complex, a little hidden away. My concern was the amount of competition and the comment that many consumers tended to be loyal to their preferred cafe/eating/drinking place. PV had been in the location for about a year I understand and was still building on its customers. This is probably a one off, but I did feel a little uneasy(?). I would imagine CAKE would have done its research thoroughly beforehand, so they probably know what they were doing and believe they have something different to offer, so perhaps I should rest assured. At present I am reasonably content to keep holding. It is good and reassuring to see the share price rise. No reason for me to sell my holdings at present. I am happy to see any share price rise in an orderly fashion, it makes me feel I can rest/sleep easier. And of course there is more to CAKE than just PV. Hi Dommo. I agree with your post. My post was aimed at those who are attracted to the more speculative shares and have let their hearts rule their heads when they see the share price fall back. They read into the RNSs what they want to rather than in more detail and from a detached position. It is a case of not being prepared to take a loss when things have turned bad. One thing I have had to learn is to take my losses whilst they are relatively small rather than let them get out of control. I have read so many posts on LSE from posters who are throwing good money away on poor stocks, and argue their case making out that it is all the fault of the market makers, shorters, trolls etc. and it is only a matter of time before the market wakes up to the full potential of the company. Their views are not open to be changed regardless of the situation. You are absolutely right that there are times when a share price will fall back for no apparent reason. If after doing more research you are happy with your holding and nothing has changed from your initial investment then there may well be a buying opportunity at what may appear to be a bargain price. I do not see this as "averaging down" however, just taking advantage. For me, this takes guts and I would normally wait to see the share head back North and have it confirmed that it isn't just a tick up on an otherwise downward trend. Yes, that means missing the bottom but no one knows when a share has hit the bottom nor reached the top. If the share has fallen sharply and significantly then there is usually a reason behind it, which may not be obvious or apparent; it may be stock specific or it may have more to do with the sector it is in. It really is a matter of our own investment strategy. It is not for me to dictate what others should do and my post was not meant to read in that way. I have lost too much in the past by being blinkered and on reflection looking like I know better than the market. Bazzaman - agree. Far better a share rises slowly than sharply. I have found my most successful investments meet that description, and my worst those where the share price has rocketed up, usually jumping onboard too late. Often a share will fall back as quickly as it has risen, many a time faster. Just look at those "high risk/high reward" shares, highly speculative shares. Just like a rocket on firework day, they shoot up and then fall back, having no support level built up over time. INL has pretty solid support around the mid 60s level with resistance around 73/75p level. Regards CM

Topped up my holdings here earlier this afternoon at 71.75p, above what I initially invested at. I am a believer in investing into strength which generally means averaging UP and not down (investing into weakness). Beats me why a lot of folk only buy more shares in their holdings when the share price is falling, believing I suppose that they are getting an even better deal. They seem to be blinkered into not looking at the bigger picture and looking for better value elsewhere having fallen in love with their holdings. I guess being optimistic we feel if the share price is falling then it must change direction at some time and head back North. Likewise if the share price is rising we fear that it can't go on much further before it starts to fall and so back off buying more. With it being near impossible to second guess the market it remains to be seen if my buy is wise or merely a guess. Lets see what happens. Good luck and regards CM

There maybe a degree of over valuation here, but bear in mind that it is often a poor time of year for stocks when volumes are generally low. With a stock like CAKE it can mean greater movement than at other times. If we look back at the last trading update then it reads positive with mention of a dividend in the next financial year. Additionally, Black Rock increased their holdings considerably recently, with directors of CAKE selling shares to meet Black Rocks desire to increase their holdings. I see no large ii sales. So, the retrace maybe more down to seasonality. Seen it before elsewhere, never good at the time. Always that element of doubt remains. Good luck and regards CM

Looking back at the last trading update: Current Trading Redde is pleased to announce that, further to its Trading Update made on 27 April 2015, trading for the final quarter ending 30 June 2015 has continued the positive trend shown in the first 9 months of the year. Indications are that the operating results before exceptional costs for the financial year ending 30 June 2015 are likely to exceed the upper end of market expectations. Cash generation continues to be strong and total cash balances were £64.9 million at 31 May 2015 compared to £62.8 million at 31 March 2015 and £58.3 million at 30 June 2014. Net cash balances (net of fleet financing) were £38.8 million at 31 May 2015 compared to £36.0 million at 31 March 2015) and £41.6 million at 30 June 2014. The Company has paid dividends totalling £21.1 million during the year ending 30 June 2015 (2014: £8.5 million in the year ended 30 June 2014). "Likely to EXCEED the upper end of market expectations". That is a key phrase to be looked out for in any update. On July 8th. Woodford increased their holding by 500,000 shares to 19%. Since then the shares have only risen to date by around 3p, having been higher. Very tempted to top up here. May be worth having a look at BCCS post of 30 June though before I do. Regards CM

Largish fall on low volume, usually indicates illiquid stock. Seen it elsewhere with previous holdings; worrying at the time but recovered in reasonable time (TRCS). Can see no obvious reason for fall. Possibly a tree shake?. Will await any recovery before considering any top up. Not expecting any RNS.

Hi T2. Yeap, moved my funds into a top up with ITV. Both shares are up from when I made the transactions. In hindsight it looks like I may have acted too quickly re PETS. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I do try to think longer term, but sometimes that has meant resigning myself to a share price that is sinking, burying my head in the sand and thinking that if I poke my head out from under the blanket in say a months time then everything will be hunkey dorey and the sun will be shining. Too often in the past it has only to see a heavy sky and rain. HOWEVER, I'm sure it is likely to be different with PETS. I just wanted to move my funds and sit on the sidelines with this one. This is vying with SNR for being the worst selling decision I have made. Sold SNR at around 100p some years ago, then watched it rise to well over 300p, GBG sold at 139p and then have watched it rise to.....?. Good luck all here. BT - thanks for your post. Not surprised the share price came under pressure today; very disappointing update. I fail to see the relevance of having a strong VIP membership sign up, although this gives marketing opportunities nor the relevance of the swipe rate of the card at tills!. What is far more relevant is the "particularly challenging season this quarter" after a strong Health and Hygiene product performance in the prior year!. What made it particularly challenging?, we are not told. And what on Earth has a short period of very hot weather in July to do with having a SIGNIFICANT IMPACT on Group revenue performance? even if it is only "alongside". Is the company trying to hide something?. How significant IS the impact?, is it likely to re-occur?, what is being done to address the situation?. Nothing stated. This RNS is as much about what it doesn't say as to what it does. The market will jump on and punish any negativity in any RNS and this has been no exception. There is very little in the RNS which says to me "buy this share" at this current level. Maybe there will be a rebound, perhaps this is a short term dip. I invested in PETS only a short time ago at around 304p. However, after todays RNS I decided to take a relatively small loss and move on. I may well prove to be wrong to have sold out; it wouldn't be the first time. For those of you left in, I wish you all the very best. Regards CM

The share price has been trending up over the last 12 months, all be it with some retraces during that time. Looking at the share price graph and at the Bollinger Bands, each time the share price has touched the lower band the share price has then risen, without falling below the band more than a touch. Generally the share price will trade between the upper and lower band, rising when it hits the lower band and falling when it hits the upper band. Over time these bands will either rise or fall, along with the share price. The share price has now hit the lower band and on the premise that it will follow its previous pattern we could expect an uplift from here. However, it is not a guarantee. I am not a chartist but do look at them more out of interest. It is certainly not a recommendation on which to base ones investment strategy, since the charts reflect what has happened to the share price and does not outright predict what WILL happen. Certainly worth keeping an eye on with a view to increase the small holding I have. In competition with so many other opportunities out there of course. Regards CM
