This looks like a major impediment to progress to me. I read it as no lithium mining approval can be given until a strategic government review has taken place, including those already underway. Does it mean that our environmental assessment can still go to public consultation- perhaps, but then what? Delay for maybe a year or more? Wonder if DA had a whiff of this and decided to look at Moz again? How are we to get a funding or offtake deal until the strategic review is completed?

The Government will have to carry out a strategic environmental assessment for mining, including for the exploitation of lithium, at the national level, according to two proposed amendments to the State Budget for 2021 (OE2021) approved this Tuesday approved by the Budget and Finance Commission . At stake are the proposals of the non-registered deputy Joacine Katar Moreira and the ENP.
With the approval of the initiative of the deputy Joacine Katar moreira, the use of revenues from the Environmental Fund for application in a Strategic Environmental Assessment for Mining on a national scale, including the regions where they are already underway, or with contracts already signed or still authorized projects, prospecting and research projects for lithium mineral deposits and associated minerals.
In addition, this Strategic Environmental Assessment tends to include "the analysis of externalities, that is, the real costs inherent to mining, namely for the populations and for the State".
