I seem to remember that their longer-term li supplier of choice is Vulcan Energy from good German geothermal sources and CO2 neutral to boot? They had a deal with Gangfeng and Umicore already so until there is some commitment shown by Portugal’s authorities I can’t see VW paying SAV much attention?

Frustrating I agree but SAV is dependent on the successful outcome of a number of issues outside its control namely, the response from APA to our environmental proposal which embraces the cross-border consultation with Spain and clarification that due process has been followed in the public consultation to obtain the “social licence to operate”.
I would like to see more progress on partnership/offtake deals e.g. a closer tie-up with the GALP/Northvolt Aurora project. Also some news on EU or other financing. I’m also not entirely convinced that the necessary further groundwork on the DFS needs to wait any longer.
This is no share for the impatient!

There comes a time though when DA needs to pull the lapin out of the chapeau (and hope it’s not a dead one)!

Hey Muldoon, good to see you posting again. What’s your take on SAV these days? Is it “third times a charm” after the disappointments of Oman and Moz?

The Mail’s share tip was also covered in The Week’s sister subscription magazine, Money Week, which has a good circulation of moneyed investors. Small fish are nibbling at the bait hence the rise but we need something substantial and less speculative to attract the big ones.

This ARCM tweet from a year ago is still valid imo. “Latest WH Ireland Research places Base Case fair value of 6p/sh adding "that a degree of exploration success could see this multiply (perhaps exceeding 20p/sh in line with our full value range), especially if a major becomes involved in the project at some level"
Well they have got involved and at an exceptional level so just sit back and enjoy the ride!

It’s worth emphasising that the JV will be a separate vehicle to ARCM. AA are not earning 70% of ARCM. ARCM are receiving 30% of the new JV and are being paid £3.5 million to sign the deal. The cash will be very useful for our other projects. Meanwhile we can sit back and watch AA earn their 70% and grow the value of the JV and our share of it.

So in other words we still have no idea when approval may be expected? I can guarantee when it will be - the day after I sell in frustration!

If we don’t have it within 3 months from now it would suggest to me that a major obstacle or objection has succeeded in delaying it indefinitely.

Yes, the EV6 is an amazing drive -quiet and smooth with 300 + mile range. A lot of people are buying hybrids too with a smaller battery pack. It’s the future but there will be plenty of hiccups along the way and not just due to lithium mining. I see Tesla production in China has stalled due to the lack of wiring harnesses ( a local lockdown issue). UK RHD cars are made there. Noises also being made about difficulties funding the UK’s Gigafactory in Teeside. Maybe the likes of Shell who are swamped with excess revenues should start splashing the cash?

That’s the dream for sure but money dries up quickly in a deep recession ( not here just yet but coming if you believe those that pretend to know). As a new EV driver I am very aware that my fuel price is now governed by the inappropriately-named “cap” on electricity prices which has almost doubled the rate in recent months from my previous fixed-price tariff. Not that the price of “leccy” seems to be stifling demand for cars - VW are apparently sold out of all EVs everywhere for the rest of 2022. I do wonder sometimes if this market will be able to grow as fast as predicted due to supply chain delays ( chips as well as batteries), inflating prices taking them beyond the reach of many folk and the aforementioned forecast recession. Time will tell of course but the longer we sit here in the doldrums the more time I have to talk myself out of my normally optimistic frame of mind.

While the Portuguese and (we are told) Spanish authorities dither over permitting, the economic situation is worsening and the cost of debt financing increases. Let’s hope DA is actively securing financing for the next stage of mine development before it becomes overly expensive or with excessive strings attached.

The Portugal News calls itself independent but it seems that doesn’t imply balance. Direct attack on SAV and its shareholders. The author has really gone off on an anti-imperialist tack. Seems to have forgotten that Portugal is part of the European Empire?

If you were going to invest a large sum of money in a lithium mine or two, the last thing you would want to do is announce your intentions in advance surely? In my mind he’s either already invested, agreed a deal or just trying to encourage producers to invest and produce more.
On that note I can say I was very concerned with the supply of EVs!
( and I can tell you that I ordered one last month on a 6- month delivery forecast, et voila…….miraculously delivered this week!)

It didn’t make me laugh but it does highlight the legal minefield we are tiptoeing through to get some freedom to operate. Will leave it to the author if he wants to repost it here. Tony? :)
