The SP seems to be a dripping tap at the moment, however I’m assuming this is largely due to the bungling of Dizzy Lizzy and Krazy Karting? Should have invested my SIPP in safe government bonds…or maybe not?

Would agreements made before approval really be pointless? Vulcan, who as you know is at an early stage of development of its geothermal project, has struck an agreement with car- maker Stellantis, sold the first 5 years of lithium production, and secured support from the energy transition fund. Those tie-ups massively de-risk the project.
Rather than stand alone, I would at least like to see SAV become a formal partner with the Aurora refinery project, maybe with one of their local directors on our board. This might reassure Politicians, local authorities and populations that we are integrated in the wider Portugal Battery strategy as well as de-risk investment in the company and take the pressure off the SP in the coming months. We did have an agreement which lapsed so surely reinstating something similar can’t be pointless? I fear it will be a long cold winter without any news while we wait for APA approval?

Hope we have a dialogue going with European manufacturer Umicore for supply of Li in some shape or form.

True but at least we have a clear plan going forward without any issues that time and effort can’t overcome. Approval from APA seems very achievable given their cooperative attitude. Although more patience is required I don’t think there is anything anyone could have done to make this happen any quicker?

Indeed they did and I’m sure the die is cast however there will no doubt be hesitation at making the final decision?

Well the rules seem clear enough but this is becoming a big political decision for Portugal so no doubt there will be a vast amount of lobbying by stakeholders during that period. Let’s hope the collaboration over the next 6 months will lead to a satisfactory outcome.

Story picked up by Reuters who seem to dispute the 50 day requirement for a DIA decision. “However, APA does not have a deadline to decide on the evaluation process, which could be interrupted if it asks for more data or clarification.”

No one could accuse the Portuguese authorities of not doing a thorough job of evaluating all possible environmental impacts. One wonders if new prospective bidders for the delayed auction of new licenses may be a tad dismayed by the hurdles they may have to jump to gain project approval ?
SAV is 100% committed to this project and when all boxes have been ticked may well have a substantial “moat” over any prospective new entrants. So much the better for future expansion of its licenses.
Some PIs may get bored and sell up on this news today but personally I’m encouraged that this is all moving in the right direction.

Looking at today’s SAV newsletter, it’s a still-mounting wave of demand for lithium with more people wanting EVs, car makers struggling to make them fast enough, battery makers hunting lithium suppliers and miners struggling to meet demand as the price rockets. Plenty of money on the sidelines for funds to invest in ESG-worthy companies.
When approvals are given in Portugal, SAV is going to be very very busy!

From what I can see looking back, DA had “a total beneficial interest in 40,656,649 Ordinary Shares, representing 2.41% of the Company's issued share capital.” Hence it’s under 3%, the notifiable limit so he can buy and sell like you and me without anyone knowing. My insight is that he is holding on to them for a successful outcome. Otherwise he would have little success to show for his years of dedication to the company?

Gives a clear mandate for Portugov to approve and exploit its lithium resource in line with European policy. Looking good!

A binary bet in the mining sector is probably the highest risk investment on AIM today and SAV is being priced accordingly. It makes no allowance for progress to date but sees the loss of a CEO and a court case disputing land as downgrading further. If and when approvals come the price will re rate as demand for lithium is unlikely to abate any time soon.
