I note that the finger of local suspicion is being pointed at lithium miners in the hunt for someone to blame for the devastating fires that have swept through rural areas causing more destruction in minutes than mining ever could in decades. ! I wonder if the view that climate change could be the culprit could gain any traction? We need a strong voice explaining that lithium mining is part of the solution not the problem.

I read the local mindset as “this is our country, our agricultural land, don’t take any of our water or touch a blade of our grass, make a noise or drive on our roads. Leave us alone to farm in a traditional way. We don’t want any change - leave us alone!”
So recognising this SAV needs a Portuguese partner (GALP), maybe involve the community in some sort of Local cooperative JV, with low cost solar energy from the solar park or the like. At this stage it costs little to explore what ideas might work if any with the local community.

There is such monstrous ignorance displayed by the popular media that all lithium production requires vast amounts of water. As you rightly point out spodumene mining doesn’t but try telling that to Portugal Resident. The protestors are more than happy to allow that misinformation to continue as it serves their cause admirably.

This is just another debate topic for the bureaucrats to spend time and money chewing over. I think it unlikely that the EU will be able to secure sufficient quantities of raw materials or processed materials from overseas at acceptable prices given the competition from the US and China . Look at the growing demand and price explosion in the last few years. Adding EU demand would cause the price to rocket again making local production inevitable. Also, will they be able to achieve their strict ESG targets via importing? Zero carbon?

Once they find out how difficult it will be to obtain security of supply at the right quality and price they will accept that local production is the only way.

It works both ways of course. Once we have environmental approval, we can sell to whoever wants spodumene concentrate, EU,UK, US or China.

Does anyone have a reference for this ECO decree law stuff that works please? Not sure if I’m looking at news or the usual waffle coming from our hosts in Portugal. As ever context is everything!
Does it mention how to deal with vexatious legal actions? To date I can recall an Aarhus convention referral, a procedural process issue and a land boundary complaint., none of which seem to have progressed any further?
Someone thinks we need a replacement for DA? How far did having a lawyer in charge get us with all the above? Let’s keep it low cost and driven by mining pros.

Hardly a surprise to anyone on here but I would suggest that there is plenty of value to be added before production starts. Look at the peer value chart on the corp pres?

Scoping study assumption was US$685/t SC6, so a nearly 10-fold increase in value since 2018 not reflected in the SP. If I were the CEO of GALP I would be seriously thinking of reinvesting my excess oil and gas profits in some of that.

I recall that with the unpopular takeover at BCN, the Chinese, who already had a JV going, got the directors on board then a sufficient proportion of institutional and retail shareholders. The deal price was very low in most holders’ opinions. Perhaps the motto is- be careful who you JV with? As I said before, I think GALP would be fine. A significant Portuguese shareholder might overcome some of the resource nationalism comments I’ve heard in the media about SAV being a British company?

Looking at the value proposition and the massive upside potential clearly highlighted in the charts, it would be surprising ( for good or bad) if we weren’t in the sights of a big hitter in the lithium value chain? Does a 63% retail shareholding make us more or less vulnerable?

Absolutely no problem with GALP taking a stake. Would welcome it on the right terms.

As you know IB I remain sceptical about Portugov’s promises around the auctions and rightly so as deadlines have passed and passed. In a way it may serve us better to be “the one” rather than “one of many” as at least we may enjoy some degree of focus and desire to push it through the approval processes. As has also been said, if we are not approved before any auction, what confidence can there be in any bid clawing it’s way through the approval process? Like it or not we are the trailblazer with all the frustration that involves. However there are surely rewards for those first to produce?

Hey Musicman, I have a bit in HZM but it’s been a disappointing slide in my experience. If I understand you right you are saying the price shot up after you sold but that was a share consolidation in June, the trend however remains downwards. I have fared much better in SAV and you are lucky if you have bought in on the dip as you should already be in profit. In a years time you should be well rewarded.

2.1p was the bottom. 2.8 p now, according to my mental calculator is 33.33r% up. We were at 3.5p before this blip which means we have another 25% to go from here to revert to the mean. That should be easy given that the value proposition is intact and with a new firm timescale. Bottom line is there may still be a nice profit to be booked in the short term and these opportunities don’t come by too often.
