I echo fiveeights’ comment on the possibility that PL seeks an MBO with some II pals. I post occasionally on the AMER board; I hold shares in both PPC and AMER (where I hold a big position, for me). AMER is up for sale (as many of you will know).

If Michinoko (Jeremy Coller) cashes in on its 11% there, does it consider redeploying here on a take-private with PL? They already hold nearly 40% between them and of course, Mr Levine’s interests provide the debt too. This would be after October, so at least some certainty on the political front would be there (good or bad). Far-fetched perhaps, but stranger things have happened.

Any constructive thoughts most welcome.

...apparently also own about 9% of President Energy (PPC) per their Feb presentation. The CEO there is calling all the shots given he has 30%.

I know this isn’t directly AMER, but I thought it might be of interest to some of you.

You may well be right, Fevertreeman. I suppose a PE house might want JW and some of the Colombian mgmt team. And it might be the only way they could get it on the cheap.

I fully agree that mgmt are hardly the compelling asset here.

Personally, if I were them, I’d be planning on spending my wealth rather than acquiring it. They got a tar-and-feathering at the AGM and one expects a new PE investor would probably want to put a few of them in the stocks.

Yes, I guess I was thinking that a PE house can’t pick it up alone for anywhere near current prices, so they approach mgmt and say “we’ll increase your equity stake, but you need to bring in a bit of money yourselves (from some IIs who want to stay in the game) and get this over the line with us at (say) 25p”.

I’ve not really figured out whether it’s truly feasible, but it might be in the mix. Just an idea...
