They made £900m+ and these guys try to tell us the stores are quiet lol. This is a business that survived the 2008 recession, Covid, and everything in between but because Dave on LSE said the store in Stansted looked quiet when he got back from a week catching herpes in Pattaya we should believe the company will go bust this year 🤣.

Good close really and miles better than it was looking at 8:05 this morning.

Was a bad day for retail in general- Next dropped 2.5%, B&M, AO, Curry’s similar…. Might have got away with a 3-5% drop if it has been a better day in the wider market (which would have probably more reflected the actual figures put out today)!

Hopefully economic concerns can be eased over the coming weeks. Unemployment figures will be out next week. Government is certainly taking a pounding from the media, and pressure being applied by markets, they are going to be forced into something soon. No doubt some people are struggling but I’m not seeing the woe, misery and poverty that the media have been portraying over Christmas.

Don’t listen to sensible people, just stick £5k in Tullow oil, £5k here, £5k in Taylor Wimpey and £5k on something filthy on AIM like Physiomics and hope for the best. By the end of the year you might have £5k or £50k.

Listening to the investor call, the CEO is repeating saying they are being extra cautious now and maybe should have been a bit more cautious when they revised it to £955… but if you take the median forecasts, they have essentially gone form around £980m to £955m to £925m. Of course it’s disappointing they haven’t hit the £1bn everyone hoped for. Do those revisions warrant a drop

From £1.60 to £1.20 to £0.86. £3.5bn taken off the market cap for a £55m drop in profit based on a tough year across the board in retail. People will need to come to their own conclusions.

I sold Ocado at £3.03 and got JD 86p.

Agree Lorenzo, the most ironic thing is that if they had said in November expected profits were to be around £900-915m I doubt it would have fallen any further than it did anyway, and todays news would have been seen as positive. I feel like these companies are purposely trying to make things seem bleak to put pressure on the government Re: economy. Most of these retail companies are reporting record Christmas periods like they just got a piece of coal in their present.

For sure, have moved my Ocado over into here. You win some and lose some. A long term winner but looks like a short term loser today. Drop massively overdone though, almost 50% down from the September peak based on 10% lower than top end expectations and 3% lower than bottom end lol.

The last suggestion by JD was £935, the £1bn+ was called off back in November hence the drop from £1.20 (having already dropped from £1.50). Guidance is now £915-935. The economic outlook in line with those portrayed by B&M, M&S, Greggs etc. I’d say everything really is in line with market expectations. However that doesn’t mean it won’t drop today.

Looks to me to be in line with the expectations they set in their last update.

Tbf their expansion into America finally seems to be paying off, they got their foot in, then covid happened, but growth is now exceeding expectations, or it was, we shall see tomorrow I guess.

I hope they can smash really smash Asia too going forward. I was in the Philippines last year and was surprised to hear that they rank the likes of Nike and Adidas up there with Prada and Versace as far desirability, even in the very wealthy Makati/BGC area. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore are very much the same. Everyone is head to toe in branded sportswear. JD are doing the right things, it’s just a waiting game.

I’ve gone big on JD and Ocado for a general market recovery of which I believe JD will be one of the bigger winners. However if the market tanks, this will be going with it. It’s all doom and gloom but I don’t think things are quite as bad as the media is making out. Certainly Labour seem to be doing their best to give plenty of ammunition to batter everyone’s confidence but sentiment and reality don’t always come hand in hand. I don’t feel that there actually has been a huge shift in expectations here from when it was 50% higher and I hope improved confidence ‘in general’ can take this one back, or at least close, to where it got to.

This is as good as any and better than most… any fall here is going to be across the board in the wider market and given it’s already well beaten down you’d hope that the downside is limited and upside much higher than those that haven’t already been hit. You’re really betting on the wider market and economy with this one rather than anything the company is doing specifically right now.

The market is forward looking, and many things are already factored in… price is currently based on certain expectations. IMO those are:

- that JD will come in at the bottom end of their forecast (£955m), hence drop in November when they said that.

- that retail stocks in general have had a slow Christmas, hence the significant drops across the board in all retail stocks since start of year based on those that’s have already reported.

- that staffing costs will increase this year because of the budget.

I guess you can also include:

- that Labour are doing their best to trash the economy and may end up raising taxes via an emergency budget.

The article you mentioned really is just a repeat of what everyone already knows. The question isn’t what everybody knows, the question is, are those final numbers going to be better or worse than expectations.

This will be £3.20 next week, purposely pushed down prior to update, same happened with JD and it bounced massively when the doom and gloom was over. Shares are almost at a 5 year low yet the business is booming, doesn’t take a genius to work out where this will get to with a small amount of patience.

They are just finalising the placing now, apparently oversubscribed, £2,500,000 at 7p. Maybe they could have tried for a bit higher.

I am just letting you know what I’ve heard, they want it finalised over the weekend.

Rumours circulating on telegram of an accelerated bookbuild taking place at 7p a share for working capital.

My biggest criticism of Ocado food delivery is the short sell by dates and packing things like bleach in the same bag as fruit, meat etc. The order process, delivery and customer service is very very good.
