@Hippo: "Even though I lost the GDP of a small african country today, I feel so much better now that Im out"
I had a nightmare situation like that a couple of weeks ago. It's a huge relief to be out of a shi* situation.
I'm possibly a swing trader. But more likely, I'm just an impatient investor. I tend to cash-in once the equivalent annualized return reaches my target. I'm not against intra-day trading and occasionally I do it, but that's more by chance rather than skill. I can't get my head around how I could ever be profitable by using lots of leverage or trading intra-day, so I stick to the weeks/months timeframe.
The last time I used leverage was early last year. I made ridiculous money on the first 'big drop' (short S&P, short FTSE, long VIX), but outstayed my welcome. I've not been short or leveraged since...maybe a similar situation is just down the track though.
I get the impression that most traders would laugh at my statistics, because they rightly maximise their profit, while I've historically tended to minimize my losses, which holds back my annual returns (~40% annually). I'm continually trying to work out how Ross Cameron is so damn successful. If only.
Good luck.
