Your statement re buybacks is incorrect.
By buying back and destroying say £1 Billion worth of shares you should in theory increase the SP as the MCAP of the company is divided by less shares in issue, in this instance approximately 250 million less.
The problem occurs when a company buys back shares and stops, then issues new shares for pension schemes and bonuses.
If BP kept buying back over the next few years and reduced the share count from say 20 to 15 Billion if everything stayed equal we should see the SP rise accordingly.
Dividends are great for current share holders but although high dividend yields attract income investors fundamentally the do nothing for "growth" as once that money is paid out it is lost.
Please also note that if shares are issued for pension and bonus commitments and no buybacks are carried out the extra shares issued will result in dilution which is obviously a negative on the SP.
Anyway let's see what happens at 7am tomorrow!

Haven't had a chance to look at this properly yet but I know BP and some car manufacturers, Porsche being one example have been looking into totally synthetic fuels, but I will have a proper read into this company later.

Shipping will definitely go Hydrogen unless they can "manufacture" an alternative zero emission fuel, same with HGV's.

Definitely, China are Russia's biggest oil customer, it would make total sense for them to buy into as many Russian assets as possible and secure their supply, especially as this war is driving the East / West further apart.
I also follow the mining stocks and you can see it happening there.

There won't be an "exceptional dividend" probably a rise but certainly not exceptional. It would set the wrong tone, totally.
With peoples energy bills going through the roof the last thing BP wants is loads of extra negative press attention.
A rise in the divi, pay down debt, extend the buybacks and invest in the future.
Growth in the SP will come and once there's some clarity with the Rosneft issue the SP will rise to suit. (I cannot believe it will be totally negative as the Chinese will definitely be interested)

I'd still be counting!

Unfortunately BP, along with Lloyds Bank are one of the traders favourites and it ends up dragging on the SP.
The Rosneft issue has also meant that some investors are cautious.
The question you need to ask yourself is what do you think May's results will be like with $100+ oil?
