Scot Bio biotech firm secures £2m-plus in funding deal
The technology provides vets with the ability to test for and diagnose potentially fatal diseases in cattle on site and within the same day, allowing farmers to isolated an infected animal quickly and limit spread of the disease within the herd.
Traditional processes involve off-site lab testing which can take up to seven days for results to come in, significantly the risk of other animals being infected.
The Kelvin Capital syndicate, led by directors John McNicol and Angus Hay, represents private investors in the UK, Europe and the US.
Alan Hale, CEO at Biotangents said: “The global medical diagnostics market is vast and presents a range of opportunities for us to become a global leader in the engineering of biology to produce fast, sensitive, reliable and easy-to-use diagnostic products.
“We already know that our diagnostic platform technology can have a real impact on identifying infectious diseases, quickly, in animals and that our patent pending design can be adapted for use in many other products and applications.
“Our focus right now is on addressing the diagnostics of Bovine viral diarrhoea – a highly contagious viral disease of cattle.
“The financial costs alone of failing to diagnose that disease early can cost farmers up to £470 per animal, and it is responsible for £61 million of losses each year in the UK alone.
“If we can successfully roll out our test internationally then we can realise an enormous market opportunity.”
John McNicol, director of Kelvin Capital, said: “The diagnostics market for livestock infectious diseases is growing due to increasing awareness of the impact that disease outbreaks can have on food security and public health.
“We need only look back to the £8 billion cost of the 2001 foot and mouth disease outbreak to highlight the enormous cost that infectious diseases can have.
“We invested in Biotangents in its first round of funding in 2017 and we are delighted to continue to back the business with a further syndicate investment.
“It is a business that is not only bringing rapid improvements to livestock care leading to public health improvements but it is also disrupting a traditional industry with its advanced technology which is very exciting
yes.byp, if you look back on my posts (btw byp, don't bother, you will be wasting your time on this bb,however much this might be construed as you are a master of this art).
Grandma sucking eggs comes to mind.
"Whatever way you look at it, a lot more people are worse off from investing in this stock than those who have profited from it. That is a fact. Most of those have already been forced to move on and are trying to recoup their losses elsewhere."
what utter gibberish, how you see investment by those caught up in mm shenanigans, the market will always win
buys to sells almost 3 to 1,yet shares down 3%,doesn't make sense to me,this market is very fickle and risk adverse, it seems a slimmed down portfolio will be better targeted.
Nova are leaders in accessable, reasonably priced and forward sales with their refined portfolio of tests using pcr hopefully will continue into cancer, bacterial and viral tests etc.
I really can't see no "bad side" to this, it's always been honest,,buy if you can.
yeah, e for a again,I always seem to spell that word wrongly, the main word ,in this context,is
"stupidity".
Yes we are world beaters at incompetance for sure, weak government response at the start and now the paltry amount involved in free testing is being scooped up by the VIP lounge where blatent capitalism flourishes eg lady mone for starters. They are now flogging off the PPE stuff bought but useless, a firesale!
The real reasons for so many deaths are international travel, poor health inequalities, high population densities in cities, care homes, prisons and detention centres etc,all of which this tory government seems keen to privatise, meanwhile upping taxes to bale themselves out.
We won't be hearing about this now the war is the main topic.
Interesting that googling Q32 images advertises identical machines from Tata and Nova, apart from the labels of course.
Better option that it might be,so true. You have to appreciate that I am a see...er, I predicted a bid price of 228 and you scoffed. Ha Ha ....only kidding.Do you spend a lot of time observing these absurd price movements?Just being friendly like.
228
Seen this many times, looks like somebody has a forward order in for a price around 338
WHO reports a new recombination varient subsequent to Omicron BA2,dubbed XE.Although only 600 confirmed sequences it is yet another example of "greater transmissability",estimated at 10%.More detail will emerge as to infections but clearly a sign that mask wearing may return.
Let's hope Nova are onto this.
Air pollution?

If you haven’t had Covid yet, in news this week, a top doctor has a theory as to why that may be.
Posting on Facebook, the medical professional, who is also vice president of the Korean Vaccine Society, claimed that if you’ve so far managed to avoid the infectious virus, it’s likely because you have no friends.
In his post, he said: “The adults who have not yet been infected with COVID-19 are those who have interpersonal problems.”
Ma Sang-hyuk has since deleted the post and retracted his somewhat controversial comments, sharing that they were meant “metaphorically”, claims news site Daily. Naturally, his comments quickly went viral and divided opinion.
This comes as new strains Deltacron and Stealth Omicron cause a rise in cases globally. (Read up on the Omicron symptoms, here).
Expanding on his initial comments after the post went viral, he said: “[My post] emphasised how difficult it is for anyone to avoid the virus in a situation where there is a high rate of confirmed cases in the area.”
However, many have pointed out that they caught Covid despite not seeing friends, with others quick to share that the reason they’d avoided the virus was not that they hadn’t seen friends, but been generally careful to wear a mask, wash their hands regularly, social distance when seeing others, and so on.
One Consultant ICU Physician – Dr Rosie Baruah – pointed out that, following Sang-hyuk’s reasoning, not having caught Covid-19 yet must mean she’s not pulling her weight on the busy ICU ward that she works on.
On the other hand, some Twitter users shared that they agreed with the doctor’s sentiment – that they believe they haven’t caught the virus so far because they’ve limited their social interaction over the past few years.
However, the majority of responses marked the doctor’s comments as insensitive.
If you haven’t had Covid yet, doctors share 6 reasons why
As the Twitter responses have highlighted, it seems a bit silly to say that not having friends is the reason you haven’t had Covid yet – which is why we asked two medical professionals for their take, instead.
If you haven’t had Covid yet, below is what science indicates may have helped you avoid it so far. Do note: these are the opinions of the doctors we asked, and while backed with medical research, don’t conclusively confirm why you may not have had it yet.

1. Air pollution in your area
According to Doctor Sam Watts, an evidenced-based Ayurvedic consultant and founder of Mind Body Medical & Ayurvedic Mentor Membership, published evidence has observed a clinically significant relationship between Covid infectivity and air pollution. “For example, evidence shows that Italian cities that exceed accepted air particle pollution rates for more than 80 days per year experienced a significantly gre
Highly likely?I see you work with "professors", so did I.Many of them are frauds despite their qualifications,I was a professional research biochemist that's all.
As all scientists agree any qualitative research like this is statistical in essence and does not take account of inherent factorial bias.
Don't "diss me" please.
Yes twosheds, don't believe all you read in the daily sh*te!
Vitamin D IS significant,it is a basic primer of the immune system, the NHS is doing it's best by giving out VitD.
Perhaps you should read the latest research by marie clair on this topic. Apparently air pollution is the main factor here, also regular exercise, fresh air and attention to the behaviour of humans.I'm glad I made 5 gallons of elderberry wine last year!
Are they all bonkers?
I think not,it may have dawned on some followers of this company that employees of Novacyt have, in the last month of 2022, bought approx. £200k of shares and hold approaching £500k in total.
Almond,Crinelli and McCarthy know something is brewing!
That research Kaeren points to a collaboration which would benefit both Bio and Nova,it could well be strategic investment to outlet Nova products, there are moves afoot now and yet I cannot understand the logic of the market.
Fingers crossed!
I find it quite ironical that the americans see the need for a rapid test which theoretically can be performed with the skillset of inserting a cartridge,"rapid" it may be but all pcr tests require similar processes and take time to result. The fact is that this took $21m to develop when our own company already has one AND is owed circa £80m from our "government"!
When will we ever learn to spend this sort of cash? on health?
This pandemic has so far cost us,the taxpayer, £400B.Where did it all go ?Well perhaps the Hallet inquiry will tell us?
Well no actually, the terms of reference are published and their is no discussion, apart from the usual gobbledegook from the westminster mandarins, on for example children or long covid or the "political" response,ie we are going to tell you nothing about our clear failings to "knock it on the head" as the blond warrior once put it.
If only HALF of this incredible sum had been spent on MY Go Pros, every hospital, surgery, airport, transport hub, border crossing could have been equiped to deal with the pandemic, instead we are struggling now under increased nhs pressure and low and behold Boots (with it's obvious connections with the tory party) step into the foray with tests at £6 (otherwise known as a sick squid or unwell cephalopod).
Free tests end on friday.Get selling Novacyt!
