Only having one or two posts to their name may signal a newbie, but they may only be a newbie to LSE and may be an experienced investor.
We all started off with 1 post. Maybe we shouldn't assume that someone with one post can't tell their @rse from their elbow.
Bartlebobton - I can only assume you're not aware but ADUK has you filtered (I'm pretty sure he posted a message on here, to you, to state he was filtering you) so your messages aren't getting through to him.
Doug - NMC Health has been delisted due to huge fraudulent activity. How on earth is this similar to ODX?
That would still only have limited impact due to crew and passengers using communal areas.
Ok, DC. That makes more sense. Thank you.
The world of dividends is taking a hammering. I got in here recently (not long after that the dividend was pulled) but I thought 'what the hell, there's always later in the year and next year'. I'm also in Shell, which yesterday slashed its Q1 20 dividend by 67%.
If schools don't re-open how can the parents go back to work?
DC - Surely the vaccine will be mass-produced and sold around the world. The company that develops it will make a stack of money, and the nation in which it is developed will gain huge international kudos.
Thanks for sharing Fruitster. I've not received that news yet from Admiral. Maybe we'll use the £50 to go out for a meal....
... Oh, maybe not.
Oxygen - What you've typed makes sense and I've learnt a little more about the company. Much appreciated.
Dividendchaser - You're posting publicly on a discussion board. You have to accept that people may wish to discuss or challenge your views. Surely that is the purpose of this BB?!?
Further, it was a genuine question (not advice) that I posed. As the recent developments appear to have made you unhappy with your presumed investment here, I simply wondered why you wouldn't go elsewhere.
Bubbles: no dramas - you could interpret the sentence either way.
Bubbles59 - whilst he/she can speak for themselves I suspect Kas2401 mean't 'in for the long term, not the short term, as most investors should be', ie, investors should be long term...
... Surely short term is trading, not investing.
Dividendchaser - I'm relatively new here, so please forgive me for basing the following on the observations of a couple of months only: All you seem to do is **** off Aviva as a 'dog of a share', for its declining share price, cut dividends etc. The tumbling share price and the cut dividends are not exclusive to Aviva. Indeed I've read that, so far, a third of FTSE100 companies have cut or cancelled their dividends. I appreciate there may be other factors too, ie your mistrust of the BoD.
All of which makes me wonder why, if there is so much fundamentally wrong with this company, you don't sell up and invest elsewhere?
Surely though, Dividendchaser, this is the same for a great deal many companies, regardless of whether or not you trust the management team. The impact of the covid fallout is not yet quantifiable, but will likely impact dividend payments for many companies this year and in future years.
The article finishes off:
So, can the industry recover from this crisis? Well there are some good signs amidst all this gloom.
"Tourists have very short memories," says Prof Agarwal. "This is like when a terror attack affects a destination. Look at the attacks in Paris and Brussels - three months maximum [fall in visitor numbers], and they were back to normal."
Also, it is fairly obvious what the industry will do the second that travel restrictions are lifted - they will launch a huge advertising campaign and slash their prices, to get customers back. Although as Prof Muller explains, that won't be painless.
So, from me (Bugerov) - I don't doubt difficulties will be experienced by those in the tourism industry, but I genuinely can't see (based on the back of covid19) why people who like cruising, will decide they don't want to do it anymore.
Shatter - Whilst I agree with your post, I think the 2 galling points for many are (i) the announcement to cancel the dividend after a recent announcement of intent to pay the dividend, and (ii) whilst other companies' BOD are too sucking up some of the pain, the Aviva BOD appear to be getting away unscathed. The latter in particular leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of many.
Make your mind up.
Has the government cancelled the dividend as you state in this post, or has the BOD cancelled it to appease the government as one of your other posts claims?
Char333 - 'Doris' & 'Tramp'? When you resort to name calling you basically lessen your argument because it shows you as a little immature.
Trump is doing his usual shooting from the hip and making promises he can't deliver. I don't like this approach but it works with many of his electorate who see him as 'getting things done' or at least trying. You're right, he won't be able to achieve his wishes by Easter; but he'll find some excuse why, probably blaming the Democrats... and 'Red' America will lap it up and love him for it. He's playing the political game! I'm not a fan of him by any stretch of the imagination but he knows how to please 'Red' America... tell them what they want to hear!
Boris has been doing the sensible thing by taking advice from Public Health England and the World Health Organisation with a view to when to close schools, when to introduce social distancing etc. Basically, he's followed the advice of the recognised experts. I'm not sure what you think would be a better strategy but as you seem to place more faith in the thoughts of 'a child of a friend' I'm struggling to take you seriously. Again, I'm not Boris' biggest fan but think he's done a good job and applied the right strategy by listening to experts and following their advice. Feel free to disagree and listen to the experts in the playground and their parents.
As for Corbyn in charge?!? The guy is a contrarian, a disruptor and not a man of action. He needs somebody else in charge so he can do what he does best - criticise and offer up alternative suggestions of what he would do in charge, which typically involves an unrealistic and undeliverable alternative solution (party politics I guess). I dread to think where we'd be with him in charge. I doubt the UK would be better off.
