almost sound like a bit of "spite" that BLM dared react to Trumps almost final order and issue those leases for ANWR, the removal of authority from BLM to manage its affairs almost Putin like.

Needs clarification fast as that will affect all companies on the NPRA - and other Federal lands in the USA some of which native peoples have interests in, massive impact potentially - imagine the law suits that will ensue.

I believe the moratorium related to new lease sales in the ANWR only.
As Merlin is in the NPRA I suspect this may be a technical announcement relating specifically to project Peregrine.

At the moment there is no "activity" in ANWR as the lease sale has happened and leases have been issued.

Leases issued and paid for and as DW has stated we have ability to tap off our SOA (non federal leases), things may change but there will be strong resistance from SOA & Arctic Corporations (indigenous companies) who are in favour of limited development .

plan is to utilise existing snow roads before branching off in direction of project Peregrine and ending at UMIAT airport.
"AEA would utilize gravel lease roads until reaching the start of the seasonal North Slope
Borough (NSB) Community Winter Access Trail (CWAT) snow trail. The NSB CWAT
starts near Drill Site 2P (ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc. Well Pad – outside of NPR-A) and
heads west across State lands before entering the NPR-A at Ocean Point along the Colville
River. AEA would follow the NSB CWAT 42 miles west where AEA would then pioneer
the Peregrine Snow Road south into the lease block and the Harrier 1 well location. From
there the snow road would be pioneered to the Merlin 1 well location further south, and then
on to the Umiat airstrip (76 Miles). The Peregrine Snow Road would be built to
accommodate the drill rig and rig camp moves.

Snow roads are not "ice" roads and very much quicker to construct, with use they harden and can also be water sprayed to make more durable and ensure drilling season is maxed.

Mobilisation of snow road construction equipment to the Merlin-1 location has commenced. To date 34 miles of a total ~90 miles of the snow road to Merlin-1 have been constructed.
