RE: Tony Gilby will save the day21 Jun 2022 08:27
It has taken Moagi many years to realise that Sekaname have been a joke from the early days. And I don't think he is there yet!
Botswana made a huge mistake by entertaining them as a potentially serious CBM producer.
MM and me never considered them as such , and the Govt wanted an alternative source so there was an element of competition to keep TLOU prices in check. They did not know at that time that TG was not the type to screw $30+ out of them! He always looked happy to beat the aussie price of $10 to $12 , have an easier ride regulation-wise, lower costs and more outlets than saturated Australia. SAPP was on the cards as well as BPC. Is it now? I dunno!
Imho, Sekaname were mugged! I'll never believe they sold a CBM facility. I think they sold a Coal mine , TG bought CBM gas! Selemo had been worked BUT Sekaname were too green! They introduced royalties on CBM or electricity production in case TG was able to do what they were never able to!
TLOU used Selemo to prove they were the only game in town, and shafted royalties by moving to Lesedi , Mamba and Boomslang which are royalty free (further proof Sekaname (Kalahari) did not have any CBM ambitions).
Once the RFP was announced Kalahari opened Sekaname to represent them as if it was a Botswanan local supplier? TG knew the business and that starting small and building fast at prevailing prices in the continent was possible. Sekaname who had no experience, were intent on finding sub-contractors to do their work for them, and never considered doing it themselves! They wanted a LARGE ADVANCE ORDER (PPA) to use as a carrot for fund raisers or they would withdraw! 100Mw was maybe 20 times or more than TLOU wanted for their plans! 100MW was to accommodate Sekaname's demands!!!!
They achieved over 90Mw in the PPA , with TLOU, no doubt delighted, receiving less than the predicted 50-50 split.
Sekaname dropped out at the RFQ because there was no Quality behind their bid! They never had a chance , and MM and I never thought otherwise!
Their presence cost TLOU several years with two RFPs and the RFQ, dewatering delays at Lesedi compared to Selemo , and Covid. Much of the post Selemo 6 years were wasted or less productive compared to how it might have been had we been the sole CBM on paper as well as reality.
If we had made Selemo the main site , TLOU would have been commercial years ago!
It might have been a different beast however! Lorries and gas cylinders may have prevailed as both preferred bidders planned in the early days!
TLOU have all 100MW as MM and I predicted from the start.
I suspect Sekaname are looking at our Hydrogen partnership as their next fairy tale plan.
Moagi and Sekaname are joined at the hip, right hip to left hip, so they are walking in circles!
I am at TG's side able to go forward or change direction smoothly.
