Sorry to top your post Winni but here are three posts from ADVFN which support everything I have been saying about the false spreads on the TLOU price!

My buy at that sp tomboyb.
I tried to buy at 11am today but limit at 1.8p did not go ahead. Then at 3pm I did telephone buy which pushed the sp up to 1.9p. Hope it is worth the effort.

Maytrees , I have been been banging on about this on LSE , and maybe here , for years.
You hit the +- 10% margin limit which protects us from a typo that costs us a fortune.
Most brokers disallow any trades outide the following range ....
Lower than the spread by over 10% OR
Higher than the top of the spread by over 10%!
On most spreads it is not a problem BUT FOR TLOU at say a spread of 1.4p to 1.6p with an average of 1.5p, the margins are tiny! In that example you are limited to 1.26p for offer, and 1.76p for a bid.
Another problem is that delays in the trade reporting means the spread may have changed from 1.4p to 1.6p behind the scenes!
If I wanted to bid on ASX at say 8c while the price was 7.2c,
10% above 7.2c is 7.92c so it would be rejected!
But here is the good news on the madness ....
I revised my bid and requested shares at 7.92c , perfectly acceptable!
It was rejected! And then I twigged why!
On lSE the spread is measured in pennies , on ASX it is measured in DOLLARS!
I was about to spend my hard earned on shares that anybody would sell at $7.92 and I'd have received 1% of the number I expected!
In practice I would have mopped up any cheaper offers first but once they'd disappeared and my $7.92 was the only bid in town , there would be a rush to grab my money as fast as possible!
==================
So well done Maytrees , by ringing your broker they knew you were compos mentis about your bid and did not require their protection from yourself.
You have opened my mind - I have been preaching that people need to clear the books of the lower offers to raise the spread. Ringing your broker by-passed that completely and I thank you for waking me up!

Incidentally, I texted Australia when I fell foul of the 10% margin.
I told them that my bids were being rejected at 7.92c and they said try 7.85c!
It worked , and having got 7.85c into the system, I was then able to revise it to 7.92c
There was an unreported trade which lowered the spread , and 7.85c was the new top plus 10% , and that is how I found out all of this!
At 3am I needed my beauty sleep or that text may never have happened.
My brokers all charge a fortune for manual transactions and I am too tight to pay those prices.
But you have broken the deadlock as long as idiots do not offer anything less than 2p.
But experience tells me they will - we have more nutters than the a
