RE: Botswana Gov 100% supportive of CBM and Tlou15 Mar 2021 13:51
I think we share similar views on Sekaname, MM - I always thought they were entertained because the Govt did not want Hobson's Choice on preferred suppliers. I think TG would play fair but the Govt could have been held over a barrel at negotiations on prices.
Searching Afdb (and there is enormous amounts of data) I found this from 2009.
It belies the theory that KE was into methane years before Tlou and mugged TG into buying an inferior site.
If this was written today I reckon Botswana would be listed.
"Oil and Gas in Africa
"The continentβs poor management of its natural resources has been a recurring theme in recent debates and need not be repeated in detail here. While there is ample evidence of countries that have managed their natural resources (gold and diamonds, for example) in ways that have benefited their populations (Botswana,Namibia, South Africa), the continent has yet to see success stories in the case of oil and gas.
However, with the ever-increasing discoveries of new oil and gas (for example, in Ghana, Tanzania, Mozambique and Uganda) and prospected fields in many countries (Sierra Leone,Mali, Kenya), the oil and gas sector still offers a unique opportunity that can be harnessed. It is critical for the continent to learn from the failures of the past in designing strategies that fully maximize the benefits of the new oil and gas discoveries."
KE sold TLOU a coal mine , TLOU bought a CBM site , which one was mugged?
Donk, do you remember posting about CBM funding from Afdb? My recollection is that there was a list of maybe 6 projects including 1 in Botswana ( north of the country? ). I think I ruled out the possibility of funding from Afdb after reading it.
(My search engine doesn't run on my mac).
