Donk, sorry if you are not Donk but you are, if you look back in history you will see that South Africa has been short of electrical power for as long as TLOU has existed.
The fact the they are selling it to Botswana rather than using it domestically is a HUGE CLUE as to why electricity prices in Botswana are so high!
Contrary to you alterego's thoughts on their economy, Botswana were very stable because of their diamonds and could afford to offer a too good to be true to Eskom! Whether that is still true post Covid I doubt but that influenced TG's decision to pick Botswana in the the first place!
Economy of scale for Sekaname? I have said many times on here, that KE told the Govt they were only interested in a large agreed supply else they would not bid!
Imho that was because they needed that security to raise anywhere near enough money to embark on their venture.
KE's name stunk after dodgy dealing in Panama was it? The Govt said they wanted, if possible, to deal with Botswanan companies so, again imho, the opened an office in Botswana and called it Sekaname as a pc move?
If you are Donk, you'll possibly remember discussing an old guy in hospital with me, who worked all across Africa for many decades. I quoted him whe he said Botswana was so financially sound due to its diamond industry that it could support the whole population without them needing to work!
I did not believe that at the current time but I had little doubt it was true at some point in the psat. He thought it was the best run country in Africa.
For the sake of fairness, when I told him about TLOU he expressed doubts about them, showing he was not that familiar with Botswana imho.
I doubted him, because he thought Botswana and the surrounding area had plenty of electricity from hydro power!
He was very elderly even by my standards so could have been 20 years retired, but he still had his marbles!
You display the same of comprehension as moagi - the tariffs HAVE NEVER BEEN AGREED with either preferred bidder!
You think the negotiations are to apportion 100Mww, I say that is set in concrete (until the 97Mw bites the dust, imho) but the negotiations are wanted by the Govt precisely to set the tariffs or prices, and the calendar for progress.
Neither side is able to do that imho, but Tlou may not be far away once they can resume onsite work.
