RE: Botala Energy25 Oct 2023 18:04
Contrary to as some mock here, I do not know everything about everyone in CBM in Botswana. Never did. But what I do know is this:
Karoo Sustainable Energy has no current connection to Kalahari Energy. Previously, they were in a JV with the construction and early operation of Orapa power station. But that ended a few years after the power plant became operational - with KSE continuing to operate plant. (I dont know if they are still the current operators of this plant, which consistently only operated on a partial basis for many years - main reason for that was to use up in-country diesel supplies before expiry date.)
I also know KSE responded to the Orapa 90MW tender for gas supply and operation several years back. Along with about 6 other parties. Only 3 of those submissions were accepted by Ministry of Mines back then. In keeping with Botswana Govt and MoM, having excited the power supply market with the tantalising carrot of a PPA that tender then proceeded to go absolutely nowhere. It still sits on someone's desk gathering dust.
What I also know is - Botala are in no way connected with Kalahari Energy. And never were, apart from Strata-X buying their current leases from Sekaname maybe 6-8 years ago.
What i also know is that Sekaname have not 'dropped out of' any race with Tlou or anyone else for that matter. They are still alive in Botswana. Whether they are 'well' or 'financially well', that is something I do not know. And I am not inclined to make any such assertions - unlike Bradsmith, who frequently makes such comments about 3rd parties. I think the words he used about one of my previous posts was 'criminally misleading post' - if he wants to use billy big b*ll*cks words about a subject matter, his starting point really should be that he knows something about his subject matter in the first instance.
As for Tlou having an agenda that can be measured - yes, that is certainly true. They have offered many different strategies over the years; as yet none of them have paid any dividend in Botswana after more than 10 years presence. When power generation looked like dying, they proffered crypto, hydrogen, orapa, solar, .... as alternatives. None of which are core to their stated strategy of Proof of concept of power generation using CBM as fuel feedstock.
Feedstock that comes from licences that Sekaname held long before Tlou did, and which Sekaname relinquished for whatever reason at that time.
